2012 Defense Discussion

Saw someone else post this and it's scary to think about. We're going to lose Simon, Williams, Goebel, Howard, Johnson, and Sabino. And we could possibly lose Hank and Roby, both are first round picks. I don't see this defense getting better next year losing all of that experience and the heart and soul of your defense in Simon. It's scary to think about Linebacker next year. Especially since we don't have any committed right now

Yeah, it's troubling to think about. Hopefully guys like Spence and Washington really start to progress and become good starters next season.

Whatever Urban discovers and decides on when he gets more involved with the defense this coming week, I am all for. I have full faith he will make the correct call on what is ailing our defense.

If I had a vote right now, I would vote on giving these guys another year together, but our defense HAS to show some progression in the next two months.

I guess the only thing good is that we probably will not see another offense like Indiana's until next season. I am sure that Purdue and Illinois will try but they just don't have the personnel to run that type of offense.

tSUN. I seem to remember getting gashed last year by a mobile QB.

To be honest starting from scratch personnel and coaching a like may actually be what we need. Right now we all have opinions on who really is at fault for how poor we are on defense. I am in the field that says the coaches need to go but honestly some fresh talent may also help going forward into 2013'

Personally I'm excited to see the speed that Jamal Marcus/David Perkins bring to the table next year, and i'm excited to see what the young defensive line can accomplish. I want to thank all of the seniors on defense in advance but in saying that losing that many players (potentially) from a bottom ranked defense may not be a bad thing.

There's never a GOOD time to replace a coordinator but when you're looking at a National Championship run in 2013' due to how dangerous the offense should be we better have something to offer on defense as well. If the current staff can't put up respectable numbers with a veteran group then WTF is going to happen when they have a green group? Won't be good I'll tell you that much.

As for the person who said "i'm glad I don't have a job working for any of you". I'm glad you don't work for me too because I'd be unhappy if I had to do your job for you (Meyer now working with the defense).

Now I've got my scum fan that I work with calling Urban the new rich rod of the B10. I can't wait until we kick their teeth in
If this is what a win over Indiana feels like, I'd hate to experience a loss to Appalachian St.

Except Robinson can't throw.

Press cover the receivers man to man, and bring the rest in tight to stop the run. Robinson can't throw deep if he doesn't have time, so add the blitzes and we should win. Robinson is elusive but as long as we don't leave the middle completely empty, he won't be able to run.

If you are going to run the spread

If you run the spread offense, there are few 5 to 7 minute offensive series. Therefore you defense will be on the field a lot. This being said, the defense needs to have depth and make stops. In both of these cases Ohio State for much of the year has been lacking. Many times the offense can help the defense by keeping the bad guys of the field. There may come a time when the offense can not outscore the bad guys.

Just a thought.

yes but

1) when has Ohio State played any press this year even in goal line situations?

and

2) given the tackling in space we've seen this year from the secondary, the scUM game looks very scary to me IMO.
