Re: vs Ohio
Ohio State has struggled mightily against athletic QBs who can also throw.

The play where Gardner scrambled around and then found the WR sitting by himself in the back of the end zone could have been pulled right from an OSU game.

Unless Ohio State's DBs shore up their coverage then it might be a replay of last year.

The issue is, Gardner will have to start over Robinson.....and we've already faced two top 20 passing QBs in Dysert and McGloin without any concern of losing the game.

Taylor Martinez and Nathan Scheelhauss were the only two that fit the athletic passing QB mold. I think we held our own on that type of QB

Nathan Shithouse was 19-34-1 for 96 yards and 0 TDs (73.7 rating)...then again, his rating for the season is 106.87, which isn't even in the top 100.

I thought anything above 90 was considered good. Also, how many of the ones above him are considered athletic or mobile?

Anything above 90 in the NFL is considered good. College QB passer rating is figured using a different formula. Here's a LINK to the NCAA-FBS passer ratings. Collin Klein leads with 174.39 (the NFL "perfect" rating is 158.3), and the #100 quarterback (Connor Halliday of Washington State) has a passer rating of 109.86.

Here's a LINK to a Wiki article detailing the two different formulas.

I guess I was having flashbacks to Nebraska, Cal and UAB and UM last season but was just going off the top of my head. Really only Martinez fits that mold I suppose. I also remembered Denard having the game of his life against Ohio State last year. I mean, if you had told me last year that Ohio State was going to score 34 points then I would have said Ohio State wins going away.

That said, the D is better than it was last year and the offense (once it gets rolling) is better than last year. A shootout would not surprise me though.

I know they are anointing Gardner a dual threat QB and the second coming up north but lets keep in mind he's impressed his own coaches enough to be the third guy in when DR went down...after Bellomy.

Also, it's worth repeating, he looked good in short spurts against Minnesota.

Hey now, his arm punting rivals their starting QB.
