2013 Recruiting....it's going to be a war!

Hey all, I'm new on the board! Been a long time lurker and lifelong buckeye fan. Here's a fun question for all of you to ponder:

We all know 2013 is stacked with prospects in the state of OH. We know Urben will do a good job attracting big name recruits....but so will Fred Flintstone unfortunately...

Even though we have an all-star coach...TTUN is starting to gain some of its old swagger back and it's hard to imagine there won't be some memorable Hoke-Meyer battles on the recruiting front next year. I feel like a lot could be determined by tOSU's and TTUN's respective performances next season when it comes to recruits giving both schools equal consideration. I also think THE GAME could be crucial as well on the recruiting front. Thoughts anyone? :oh:

As much as I would like to think Hoke is a fluke and that Urben will be far superior...you can't deny that the man had a successful year by nearly all measures.
I don't think I called the piece of shit a fluke. I do think 2010 is his high water mark.

I think he's out of his league now that Urban Meyer is in town. I guess time will tell.

Being a combat infantryman has taught me many things... among them is to never underestimate your enemy. Brady Hoke just because he doesn't have rings should not be discounted... Bo didn't have any either when he arrived at Michigan...

I doubt that Urban Meyer will underestimate him. I think it will come down to what recruits fit which offense the best. Defensively, I think the S&G staff will out recruit Skunkbears. That will make all the difference.

According to The Bank from a few weeks ago, he feels OSU is primed for a top 3 class nationally in 2013...and even he couldn't explain the fact that while many of the 2012 kids were hesitant to look at OSU a few months ago, the 2013 kids were all telling him that OSU there one of their top choice if not their outright favorite. Add to that you will have Pantoni and UFM on the job for a full year and the fact Ohio is loaded for 2013 and it's easy to see why many projecting an epic class for '13.

Hoke is going to get a few kids in Ohio every year. The number of Ohio kids playing for Michigan (and other B1G schools) is going to be a story every year. It's simple law of averages. Ohio produces WAY more D1 talent each year than Michigan. That's how you end up with a dozen Ohio boys playing for Michigan while there are only a couple of kids from Michigan in Columbus.

Quite right, Wade.

I think Ohio State fans have been rather comfortable with the fence around Ohio that Tressel created. I can't think of may players Ohio State wanted and lost out to Michigan for over the years. There were a few, especially early. But, for the previous 3 years, Ohio State was also in a position where the then Michigan Head Coach, and still an ass, pretty much abandoned Ohio.

Fact of the matter is, Ohio produces a lot of D-I talent. Michigan has been thieving Ohio for a long time, and they will continue to do so so long as the Michigan HS system produces limited talent to support both scUM and Sparty.

In any event, in years where Ohio is more stacked - the losses look more important. There are going to be a lot of good players who "get away" just because Hoke, correctly, decided that abandoning Ohio is not wise. But, I have to believe, with Urban at the helm now (and I would have said this if Tress was still in charge) the Ohio kids Ohio State wants will still end up at Ohio State the bulk of the time.

I think Urb has the #1 class in 2013. Ohio is so loaded and Urban will get his pick of who he wants. Also, we already have a few OOS recruits that are Buckeye leans (Derrick Green, Jaylon Smith, and Eli Woodward). Thats 3 high profile recruits that Urban can land without breaking a sweat. I think Urb will also pull in a few Florida players. Even if urban chose not to leave the state in 2013(which he obviously wont), he would still have a top 10 class.

Don't ever compare Brady fucking Hoke with Bo Schembechler...
