2013 TSUN Football News

I actually think it is a little bit of a black eye for them. Robinson was a highly rated safety prospect. It may not be all Mattison's fault that he did not develop into someone who contributed, but he shares some of the blame.

Mike Jones is leaving the team as well...........It's no secret Tressel could recruit. I'm not sure what Rich Rod was doing

According to most of your fanbase and the scUM press (freep aside), he was "revolutionizing how the B1G looks at offense". Or at least it was that way until it became clear that defense was an afterthought...

They talked him out of transferring last season too, though. You can only do so much with a kid who doesn't want to be there, I guess.

not what I read, but it doesn't matter. Good luck to him.

My info on this subject is first hand. Marvin and his family love Michigan and everything about it. Except that fact he wasn't playing. He really wanted to stick it out, but wants to see the field and in his spring eval what was said didn't indicate that he would be seeing anytime besides special teams.

Michigan searching for graduate transfer QB by June 27
Kyle Meinke | [email protected]
May 13, 2013

GRAND RAPIDS -- Michigan still doesn't have a healthy scholarship backup for quarterback Devin Gardner on campus.

And it's still looking for one, with a soft June deadline.

"Yeah, we are (still looking)," coach Brady Hoke said Monday before the West Michigan Sports Commission Annual Luncheon at the J.W. Marriott in Grand Rapids. "But, it's one of those things where there's a lot of I's to dot and T's to cross to make sure it's the right fit."

Michigan was considered a player for former Florida State quarterback Clint Trickett, but he chose West Virginia instead. Arkansas' Brandon Mitchell is another reported possibility.

Hoke said he would like to secure a quarterback by the start of Michigan's summer term, which begins June 27.

?You?d like to have an idea where a guy?s on campus," he said. "Some guys are finishing later than we finish, so that?s part of it.?

Hoke said it's more likely Michigan adds a graduate transfer than a JUCO quarterback because the school's requirements could make the latter more difficult.

Michigan is searching for a quarterback after sophomore Russell Bellomy sustained an ACL injury during spring camp. He had successful surgery earlier this month and is expected to miss the season.

The only scholarship player behind Gardner will be incoming freshman Shane Morris, who arrives on campus next week. The other two reserves are walk-ons, Brian Cleary and Alex Swieca.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke took issue Monday with the way Notre Dame pulled out of its annual football rivalry game with the Wolverines.

Hoke told a crowd at the West Michigan Sports Commission luncheon in Grand Rapids that the Irish were "chickening out" of their series with the Wolverines, multiple outlets reported.

"We have unbelievable rivalry games at Michigan," Hoke said, according to MLive.com.

"The Notre Dame, that rivalry, which they're chickening out of ... they're still going to play Michigan State, they'll play Purdue, they don't want to play Michigan."

Yeah... After two defeats, scUM's cancelled the series for 30 years each time... and now Hoke has the gall to claim that ND's the one chickening out.

edit: I can't believe I'm defending the domers on this... :smash:
This is grabageman's MO...he runs his mouth and takes little pot-shots. Ya gotta make up for mediocre coaching and a mediocre record somehow. I'm anxious to see how his fat ass does when Mattison retires or moves on...

Remember, take away his 1st year at scUM, where he rode a cushy schedule to a BCS appearance against maybe the worst BCS-performing team ever, his career record is 55-55. That's not by accident.

I don't see how Mattison shares any blame. Robinson wasn't getting on the field before Mattison got there. So that was two different coaching staffs now that Marvin couldn't get on the field for. Marvin plays strong safety, and Kovacs who played the same position and who was a walk-on with zero offers was just flat out better.

Thomas Gordon was locked-in as a returning starter at one safety spot and there was a safety spot up for grabs and it appears that Jarrod Wilson and Dymonte Thomas both had better springs than Marvin.

It happens. I don't see this as them pushing Marvin out the door, they were already at the 85 limit with the departure of Kaleb Ringer and Marvin was a senior, so him leaving has no effect on getting down to the 85 limit or no effect on the numbers in 2014.

I hate to say it, but I don't like the scUM game going away. It's a great rivalry, not on the level of Michigan and OSU of course, but it brings some great games and good animosity. I would rather the Irish drop Purdue and keep playing Michigan State and Michigan, but it looks like that's not going to happen. Right now they're going to keep USC and Stanford to stay in California in November and recruiting purposes, Navy for the history and for saving the university during WWII, maybe Michigan State and Purdue. That leaves one or two games after ACC commitments which they'll probably use for their Shamrock neutral site series and any special games like Texas coming up.

That said, I love bulletin board material and I hope the team does too. Kinda funny, last year at the Michigan Pep Rally the mascot talked about how in the past Michigan had cancelled the series after back to back losses. They were saying they hoped that last year's game wasn't the beginning of another end of the series. Don't think anyone had a clue that Swarbrick was planning on dropping them himself just prior to the game. I enjoyed the end result though, and the stadium sang Happy Birthday to Denard afterwards which was great :)
