  • Starts tomorrow at one of the classic gold venues in all of Golf. The renovations to Pinehurst and the return of the course closer to the original design look fabulous from what I have seen on Golf Channel. I always get a little choked up thinking about the late great Payne Stewart and his win over Phil here. Great tribute to Payne on Golf Channel this week.

I am just going to sit back and watch as I just really have no idea who may take this one. Phil hasn't found his game this year. Rory is inconsistent and his head seems elsewhere half the time, but when he is on he is on. Just not buying Bubba or Adam here. Spieth and Rose could be wild cards or maybe just maybe Dustin Johnson.

Pinehurst #2 sort of reminds me of a course that you would find over the pond. I much more enjoy a U.S. Open that has the tall rough which really penalizes a guy for a bad drive. Pinehurst does not do that to the extent I think it should for a U.S. Open.

This Open may prove to be a disaster for the popularity of the game of Golf or for trying to grow the game in the U.S. Nothing like a foreigner running away with the home turf Open and nary a charge from any of the U.S. contention especially the up and coming younger guys. Couple this with the absolutely horrendous coverage more so by NBC than ESPiN(sans the moronic diatribe by Berman) and you have a recipe for a public perception disaster. Stop with the Jimmy Roberts human interest stories, this isn't the Olympics, and actually show players other than the leaders and maybe people will watch.
