more atGREENVILLE, N.C. – The Ohio State baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to pick up a 5-4, come-from-behind win over Western Kentucky in the Keith LeClair Classic Saturday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 7-2 on the season while the Hilltoppers fall to 6-4.
“That’s a great win today,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “Western Kentucky’s a very good ball club and they’ll win a lot of games this year. It’s a good win for us to get early in the year. We weren’t very good for a long part of that game and then we were really good for a short part and it was just enough to take the lead and give the ball to Dempsey. Post came in and calmed the waters and kept us in the ballgame and Trace came in and did what he does to close it out.”
The Buckeyes took the lead in the bottom of the second off Western Kentucky starter Austin Clay. Craig Nennig reached on an error with one down and a perfectly-executed hit-and-run by Connor Sabanosh put runners at the corners. Tim Wetzel then laid down a safety squeeze and Nennig beat the throw home for a 1-0 Ohio State lead.
more atGREENVILLE, N.C. – The Ohio State baseball team dropped a narrow 3-2 decision to East Carolina in the finale of the Keith LeClair Classic Sunday afternoon at Clark-LeClair Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 7-3 on the season while the Pirates improve to 6-5.
“Today was a tough loss but East Carolina is a good baseball team,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “We had a couple errors and gave up an unearned run but we scratched and clawed. We came back in the ninth to have the tying run on third and go-ahead run on second but we were unable to get it done. At the end of the day, we won the weekend and we’re playing good baseball heading into next week.”
Ohio State jumped out to the early lead against East Carolina starter Davis Kirkpatrick. Troy Kuhn led off the game with a triple to right and Pat Porter followed with an RBI single to get the Buckeyes on the board.

With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 7-4 on the season while the Ducks improve to 11-3.
"We need to make Oregon earn it more than we did tonight," Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. "We gave them an unearned run and then the game got away from us in the big inning. We need to make sure we take care of the baseball, have them earn it and we'll try to bounce back tomorrow."
Oregon was able to get on the board in the bottom of the second against Ohio State starter Greg Greve. After a leadoff single by Kyle Garlick, A.J. Balta reached on a fielder’s choice and J.B. Bryant got on with a bunt single before a double steal put runners on second and third with one down. Greve was able to get Jack Kruger to pop out to second for the second out of the inning but an error on a ground ball by Mark Karaviotis allowed Balta to score for the 1-0 lead.
