2015 CFB Week 1 Open Thread

Bama is designed to beat Wisconsin. They both play caveman ball, Bama is just bigger, faster and more talent at every single position on the field. Seriously, you could flip-flop the coaching staffs between teams, and the play calls would all be identical and the score would be identical.
Saban built his team to beat the SEC teams of 2010 and earlier. That is the style of play that Wisky runs, that is the style of Paul Chryst knows, so don't expect a change. They will never beat a Saban bama team with Chryst. The bigger the talent gap, the more creative the play calling scheming has to be. If there is a card that has the play with the most statistical chance of success for every situation, Wisconsin will run that play.... so will Bama actually.

Bama is doing a lot more contemporary stuff on offense than you're giving them credit for. Lane Kiffin has changed that. They're spreading out more, running the ball out of the pistol, increasing the tempo every once in a while. Heck a few pages ago I posted a tweet were somebody identified where they ran one of Tom Herman's plays. They're going to school on what has beat them (mainly from Ohio State and Auburn) and incorporating bits of it into what they do.

The talent gap is real and evident. Wisconsin has always operated at a deficit compared to the Ohio States and Alabamas of the world. It used to be though that they had the toughness and technique on defense and in the run game to make better teams play down to their level. The did it as recently as their bowl game against Alabama. They don't appear to have that ability this season.
