Game Thread 2015 National Championship Game: (2) Oregon vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 12th @ 8:30p ET, ESPN

There is zero comparison between the two. Mariota is the far superior QB

You seem to have a really good grasp on this team, care to tell us who the dangerous players are outside of Mariota? He's honestly the only name I've heard called all year for Oregon and I have watched almost 0 film other than the game against FSU, during which I was intoxicated.

Definitely hated in the PNW.
Oregon are ever so Great Gatsby ... no actual success, but suddenly Nike cash falls from the sky and they think they're above everyone else. So many bandwagon fans came out of the wordwork around 2007-2009 too. I can't remember seeing any Oregon stuff circa 2006 when I moved, suddenly it was everywhere with the false bravado.
There's also a perspective in Seattle towards Oregon/Portland comparable to how we view PSU -- they ever so desperately want to be Seattle's rival. But no. Seattle would rather see SanFran or somewhere else as their equal. Portland and Oregon are beneath them. A place you go for strippers and hippies living in Bohemian depravity (as opposed to the high-minded & organized liberal bourgeois of SanFran / Seattle).

I'm originally from Eugene, but lived in Tacoma for several years, so I have a pretty good perspective on how the Huskies hate us. Trust me, the feeling is VERY mutual. They've had their noses in the air ever since they split the championship with Miami back in 1990. They've been really hating us lately since we've beaten them 11 years in a row AND Mariota won the Heisman. They've never had a Heisman winner. Poor guys. Sniff, sniff...Lol.

Most people forget that Oregon has had success before Chip Kelly arrived as offensive coordinator in 2007. The Ducks finished #9 in 2000 and #2 in 2001 with a win over Colorado in the Fiesta Bowl. Practically everyone in the country agreed that we should have played Miami for the championship that year, but the BCS screwed us by picking a Nebraska team that had just lost by 4 TDs to Colorado in their conference championship game.

I agree about some of the bandwagon fans, though. A lot of people want to be part of something special. We'll see how long they stick around if we ever have a down year or two.

I've been a Duck fan since I was a young boy and remember a lot of 2-9 seasons. I appreciate everything that Phil Knight has done for the university. He's obviously a great part of our success.

However, it was Rich Brooks who worked hard to lay the foundation for Oregon to get the facilities built so that the Ducks could become competitive. He went to the powers that be, the alumni, school president, AD, etc and tried to make them understand that in order to compete on a national level, they were going to have to be willing to invest in themselves.

Mike Bellotti continued what Rich Brooks started and had decent success on the field, but because of that, he had a hard time holding onto offensive coordinators. We lost Jeff Tedford to be head coach at California, Andy Ludwig (mutually parted ways), Gary Crowton (who won a national championship the following year at LSU) and more. We were also 10-2 in 2005.

Also, the Ducks aren't the only team in the country that has rich boosters. I'm sure the Buckeyes have access to a few people with deep pockets. Texas does, Oklahoma State has T. Boone Pickens, etc. There almost has to be for any program to be successful at this level. We just happen to stand out more than most because of the Nike brand.

Anyway, the Huskies suck with a capital SUCK!

Go Ducks!

The only players I have any concern over are Mariota and the 3 DL I mentioned mainly because of pass pro and how long Cardale holds onto the ball. We can run it down their throats. That win over Stanford was kind of fools gold. I don't think they solved the Stanford problem. Stanford is just down this year.

That and the ability of Mariota to extend plays and how rarely he gets flustered. Highly unlikely he makes the mistakes Sims made. But, I feel really good about our DL vs their OL. He will be harrassed all game long.

I'm leaning towards a 45-35 tOSU win but who the hell knows?

I'll let @OregonBuckeye add but they've got a couple of solid RB's in Freeman and Tyner - neither are on Zeke's level though. I'm actually surprised they haven't had more success with those guys this year.

Their WR/TE's though are deep and they spread it out real well, you'll recognize a few names that are Ohio kids like Dwayne Stanford and Pharaoh Brown who was having a great year before a season ending injury in the Utah game. Also Devon Allen is another familiar name and he's out as well - injuries have hurt them a bit there. They make it hard to game plan for - their WR's have great size too, so def can get up there. In the red zone you'll prob see Apple on Stanford.

Wouldn't be surprise to see Kwon spy on Mariota a bit - he's got the speed and instincts to disrupt Marcus.

I understand Oregon is a little banged up. Bama was a little banged up too. In the fourth quarter, two of bama's best defenders for that gamer were on the bench. What happened next (might have been two plays later)? Elliott busts out an 85 yd game sealing run. I could see the same type of thing happening to oregon. The season wears on you but OSU seems pretty fresh, except for at qb.

CJ took some hits and got up slowly a couple times. I'm sure he will feel fine though. Oregons DL looks to be as good as bama's, who was able to figure out CJ and Elliott through the latter part of the second half. Can Oregon do that the whole game?

Hmm. No standout WRs? or RBs worth noting?

The one thing I think I noticed this year is that Oregon hasn't been blowing teams out to start the games. They seem to keep it close for the first quarter, most of the second, and then the scores start to avalanche. I remember the past couple years seeing Oregon put up 28-35 first quarter points.

If this is true, what's the cause? Exhaustion? Adjustments? Capitalizing on opponents mistakes?

Thanks. I'll have to start watching some film this week to see what they're made of. Gotta hand in my report to Urban on Tuesday. Or not, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I think they capitalize on mistakes. I believe their turnover margin is huge. They specifically mentioned trying to make FSU turn the ball over and got 5. That's crazy.

I saw they actively try to strip the ball. I guess the nice thing is that with a playoff, you can prep for that, unlike Florida State. I'm sure OSU will work on ball security after the FSU fiasco. The fine line is tackling and then trying to strip, not trying to strip and then tackle. OSU has tried to strip in the past 3 years (not this year) and seemed to forget to also tackle.

I think they are +20 on the season.

Bama is actually notorious for trying to strip the ball and they have some big dudes to attempt it. I've watched them do it all season long and they tried it in our game as well. I'm not nearly as worried about Oregon trying to strip the ball from us. Meyer has been preaching ball security ever since that turnover Zeke had. He will be hammering it home before this game.
