Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

http://www.nola.com/sugarbowl/index.ssf/2014/12/ohio_state_is_back_in_new_orle.html

Ohio State is back in New Orleans. What's a Buckeye to do?

The first thing Buckeyes and New Orleanians both should do is see The Best Damn Band in The Land (aka The Ohio State University Marching Band). It's a fact that if the football team could match the band's astonishing precision and consistency, Ohio State would never lose.

The largest all-brass band in the world will have two free performances in New Orleans. One will come at the Buckeye Bash, an Ohio State bowl tradition, which will be in Fulton Street on Dec. 31 from 1 to 3 p.m. The Bash is probably something more appealing to the Buckeye faithful (e.g., Archie Griffin's speech), although we can always hope it will feature the band's moving rendition of The Navy Hymn, a staple of pre-game "Skull Sessions" in Columbus.

Still, for those who love "Hang On, Sloopy," for all decent people who "Don't Give a Damn for the Whole State of Michigan," or for those who just want to see them dot the i, the band will hold a rehearsal open to the public in Tad Gormley Stadium on Dec. 30 at 11 a.m.

Buckeyes' fans headquarters in New Orleans will be the Mid City Yacht Club at 440 S. St. Patrick St., behind Jesuit and near I-10. Owner M.J. Sauer is an Ohio State alum, and she leads the Cajun Buckeyes, the local alumni association.

On Dec. 30 at 6 p.m. the Cajun Buckeyes will host a welcome party and a kickball game between Ohio State and Alabama alums at S. St. Patrick St. Park, right across from the bar. On Dec. 31 there will be a New Year's Eve party (the last shindig there attracted Will Smith, who won a national championship at Ohio State before becoming a New Orleans Saint, and Jonathan Wells, the former John Curtis standout who rushed for more than 100 yards and a touchdown in The Game his senior year).

On Jan. 1, the Yacht Club will hold a block party and have big screens set up starting at 10 a.m.

For whatever reason, he is largely ineffective in the first half, but is a destroyer of worlds who fears no man in the second. It's like he needs to DL to be at least slightly gassed. Usually if the line doesn't get him, nobody will for a while.

.

...and still averaging right at 4.5 yards per carry in the first half.

What skews perceptions on Henry are the runs that are 20+ yards. He's only had one of those in the first half this season; I think the number is eight in the second half.

You're spot on about the defense getting worn down. He'll average about four yards per carry in the first quarter, by the third he's over 6.5 and getting close to 7.5 by the fourth.

I remember in the B1G championship game they were showing similar stats with Gordon. How he get's stronger and gains more yards as the game goes on. It was pretty impressive and intimidating. Until they played the game, of course.

Good info. Always nice to have you around, Tom!

I may be wrong, but it seems like he has a bunch of negative plays in the first quarter too. I don't know where to get stats that detailed though.

Alabama has always had issues pass protecting issues in my opinion, Lane Kiffin's offense seems to be a quick release style offense which has somewhat hid this issue this year but making Blake Sims hold the ball a little longer with your fast D-ends would cause havoc.... If ain't mistaken, going from memory only, Ole Miss and Arkansas were able to stop Lane's quick passing patterns, forcing bama to try plays which involved holding the ball a little longer and we know how those games turned out... ( Loss to Ole Miss... and a 14 to 13 victory for Bama).

I must admit though, their DB's lost the Ole Miss game though.
Bama was without their starting center for most of the ole miss and for the Arkansas game. Ryan kelly was a huge loss, not just because of his physical performance, but because of his understanding of the game and getting the OL into the proper sets. The offense was terrible when kelly wasn't in.

Kelly and LT Cam Robinson have been dealing with injuries all season, if they are both 100 percent, Jan. 1, Alabama could put up some points in this game. Also, RB, T.J. Yeldon, TE, Bran Vogler and WR, Amari Cooper, yes Cooper have been hurt for the last few weeks too. In fact Cooper wore a knee brace against Aub. If all these men are healthy, look out.

The team should be there now:

OSU Buckeyes Football Team Head To New Orleans For Sugar Bowl

The Ohio State University Buckeyes football team is on its way to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl.

The team loaded buses at the Woody Hayes facility on Saturday afternoon before making their way to the airport.

Their plane is expected to land at the Louis Armstrong International Airport around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

They start practicing for the game on Sunday.

"The focus has been really good. And now it's a matter of time. We've got one more hard practice and then get them mentally or get them physically ready to go," said Coach Urban Meyer as he prepared to leave Columbus.

It's not fair that OSU gets an extra hour to prepare. This is bs.
