Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

Like I said, Randy Edsall is a horse's ass. I wouldn't assume too much with him when it comes to class.

Not to belabor the point, but Sparty did force 4 turnovers, sacked the QB 3 times and held Maryland to 6 yards rushing when they played.....
Edsall is about the last B1G coach who should be providing analysis or advice...

One member of the CFP Committee, a university professor, explains what might motivate an opposing coach to write that column...

I have a hard time believing it was Edsall with a game tomorrow. Shouldn't he have his head to the grindstone?

I'm going to assume it's Franklin for now... it fits, their game is over, he has a habit of running his mouth, he's been a bit froggy after that win (including that little bit about culture), and he's shown he's all too desperate to ingratiate himself with the cult by bashing the object of their envy.
Plus I already dislike him and this just adds more reasons to roll eyes at Ped State.

The match-up has been known for 3 weeks....there is no indication it was only written today.

Not written today, but probably in the last week. I'd think his head should be to the grindstone up to gametime though. It's not like Edsall has anything to hang his hat on at Maryland. If it does prove to be him, what a gigantic fool.
I just can't shake the thought of Franklin smug with his bowl win and "we were robbed" viewpoint.

It's an assumption, but w/o concrete info... I decide to assume Franklin.

I think Franklin is dumb enough to actually put something like "If 'x' had happened, we would have won"....the way its written is like whoever did it saw the weaknesses and lacked the talent to fully exploit it. That smells like Maryland to me. That was also the first game of the year that JT really went off against legitimate D-1 competition too (looking at the 'if they had Barrett..." comment)....

Could be either one...and if the paper was turned in with pizza sauce on it, chances are it was Hoke

I didn't get that he said they were overrated. Just that they had weaknesses. Having the #76 passing defense in the nation is a weakness. He definitely doesn't give them enough credit.

I think Maryland's coach wrote the article. OSU's pass D had a few breakdowns in that game.

Wrong Ohio team. Miami (OH) is #76 passing yards allowed. OSU is #15 in passing yards allowed and #5 in team passing efficiency defense.

Meh, the fluff pieces for journalists. Smart gave 'em something to print. Maybe Kiffin is rubbing off on him. Eddie Jackson seems to be retaining his position. I didn't notice who was playing in the SEC CG which is good, but tOSU is far more talented than Mizzou too.

Can't believe this is just a few days away.

Some thoughts from me:
-Not sure why people are discrediting OSU's run game in favor of thinking Cardale and the WRs will have to win it. I think EzE has a huge game. This kid is going to surprise everyone on the field and I guarantee he busts a long one. It may not be early as the O-Line shakes off the rust, but he will find a gap and go. I think he'll be the most ready and the one Herman relies on to settle the game down.

When the discussion of OSU's run game comes up in these conversations I think most are missing the main point—both sides in fact.

Personally, I'm not thinking Bama shuts down the run game of OSU. Keeps it below its season average? Definitely.

Earlier in this thread I pointed to the red zone defense numbers. There's a big difference there when you start delving into the numbers.

With the running game, what I haven't seen mentioned is Alabama has only allowed 3 rushing TD's this season.

Wrong Ohio team. Miami (OH) is #76 passing yards allowed. OSU is #15 in passing yards allowed and #5 in team passing efficiency defense.

If we're going to use stats here it's important to note how highly ranked the passing offenses have been that OSU has faced, right? I haven't looked, but I'd guess there's almost half of the SEC with a higher passing ranking than the best passing team OSU has faced this year—which would be Sparty, right?

Cincinnati is #13. The only SEC team better is Texas A&M. 5 SEC teams are better than Michigan St who is #39
