2017 CFB Bowl Games Open Thread

I'll ask again: how many losses does Alabama need to have next year before you would no longer allow them to grace the CFP with their presence?

I want to say that if Alabama has a loss that keeps them out of the SEC Conference Championship while the other conference champions have only one loss, they'd probably get shut out ala Ohio State in 2015. Then again I wouldn't put it past the committee to say "Alabama is unequivocally better" than whatever conference champion they're comparing the Tide to soooo who knows. I'll go with 3 losses minimum.

I think Oklahoma was the best team, but they fucked it all up.

If Oklahoma had not let UGA come back and win that game, I think their offense would have put up some points and some yards on the Bama defense. Not sure they would have the defense to get a comfortable lead and keep it though.

Maybe because they always win, except 2014 when the stars aligned for Ohio State, much like 2002.

And maybe 'bama is always given the opportunity because Saban is the best coach and always has the top recruits and a top 2 or 3 team. Saban's team never gets embarrassed like Ohio State, ND, the U, Georgia, Clemson, Southern Cal, Auburn did in 2017.

Yes, the past couple years they played a cupcake schedule, much like the Buckeye's did in 2002.

If you're going to argue on behalf of Alabama on an Ohio State board, at least try to come up with a logical argument. Your after the fact application of knowledge to decisions made before those facts proves nothing.

Maybe this simple logic will be easy for you to grasp re: your after the fact gobbledygook! A Saban coached team has not had anything close to a 55-24 Iowa blow out in the past ten+ years. Also Ohio State was favored by over 20 pts. against Iowa!

And Saban doesn't need me to argue for him as his coaching record speaks volumes.

OSU played and beat the number 1, 10, 12,17, and 23rd ranked teams in the country in 2002. The OOC schedule included Washington State, Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Kent State, and San Jose St. This was also when Washington St. was a good program with a heisman candidate at QB. Add to that good Michigan and Penn State teams and the greatest team ever assembled in the 2002 Miami Hurricanes and I think us going 14-0 proves we did not the NC due to a "cupcake schedule".

Saban lost to Utah in their own backyard by 2 touchdowns not that long ago when they were double digit favorites. Is it as bad as the Iowa game? No. But we played at Kinnick without 2 months to prepare.

Washington State were Co-Pac 10 champs and played in the rose bowl. Finished #10 in both polls

scUM finished #9 in both polls

State Penn finished 15/16

Texas Tech was a 9 win team

Wisconsin and Minnesota were both 8 win teams

Cincinnati (C-USA Co Champ) and Purdue were 7 win bowl teams.

So all in all 8/13 regular season opponents won at least 7 games and 3 finished in the top 15 of the polls (2 top 10).

The problem is the committee clearly gives a "benefit of the doubt" based on past success. Which is total crap no matter how you try to spin it. College Football changes massively year to year. Alabama (or anyone just using them as a example) in 2017 shouldn't get some sort of benefit of the doubt because of how Bama was in prior years.

btw, the Buckeyes have got curb stomped twice in the past (2) years. Three if you count Oklahoma.

I'm sure Ohio State "didn't want to be" in the Fiesta Bowl vs ND after the 15 season and in the Cotton Bowl vs USC after this season.

They still showed up and won though..........

That excuse by the so called "pundits" is almost exclusively thrown out only for SEC schools (Like Auburn vs UCF) guess the SEC gets a special mulligan for "not wanting to be there" that no one else does.

The SEC has never really lost a bowl game. Any SEC team not playing for the championship just "didn't want to be there" and mailed it in!
