Philosophical question for a Sunday morning:

If people post and I don't see it because they are on ignore, are they still wrong?

1) They would have not been on ignore if they were right in the first place.

2) The best predictor of future performance on a criteria is previous performance in that criteria.

Ergo: Still wrong

And, probably more annoying two weeks later.

Didn't watch the game. Was Iowa that good or were the pedsters underwhelming playing their first team with a pulse?
Strange game. McSorly does well in that offense. Saquan looked good in the right places but I will be surprised if he lasts the whole game against Ohio State. Looks like he's taking a pounding and they play TSUN the week before us. Their defense looked very good early on, but I don't think they will handle Ohio State for four quarters if the Buckeyes get the passing game sorted out. They surely didn't look top 5 to me yesterday.

I'm in the same camp. I'm not as worried about PSU this morning as I was after the 1st Q last night.

One thing Ohio State HAS to do is not let SB get his touches in space. Iowa did that more often than not and he was getting huge chunks of yardage. Key on him every time he's on the field, and never deviate.

McSorely (sp?) doesn't scare me at all. This season has only proven that the heave it up approach's success last season was more luck than anything. He's not hitting on those at nearly the same rate this year, IMO.

I got two things from watching that game last night. If our Dline doesn't make plays against them just going through their right tackle all night it's because he's holding. After watching SB come up hobbled after that cut later in the game I'm less upset about JK not being given all day to run.

Biggest message for me: Manage the damn clock. By no means, leave the Pedsters a couple minutes in the 4th to come back and beat you, because if nothing else is true, they do perform well under pressure. (As in, driving down the field in the last minute and scoring the winning TD throw in a hostile stadium as the final couple seconds expire.)

Oh, and I wasn't still watching then, but I believe I saw something about McSorley kicking the ball into the stands after their victory.
Stay classy, Trace.

Some epic Bama defensive efforts over the past few seasons:

2016 Clemson: 35 points, 511 yards, loss
2016 Arkansas: 30 points, 473 yards, win
2016 Ole Miss: 43 points, 522 yards, win
2015 Clemson: 40 points, 550 yards, win
2015 Ole Miss: 43 points, 433 yards, loss
2014 Ohio State: 42 points, 537 yards, loss
2014 Auburn: 44 points, 630 yards, win
2013 Oklahoma: 45 points, 429 yards, loss
2013 Texas A+M: 42 points, 628 yards, win

Nick Saban basically plays 1970s era Big Ten football on both offense and defense, emphasizing size and strength over speed.

Good teams have figured out ways to exploit Alabama, especially their defense. Someone will do it again this season. Let's hope that it's Ohio State in the playoffs.
At least they ain't out here giving up 400 passing yards to the likes of Indiana though.

My takeaways:
- Barkley is a beast. We knew that, but yea. He's their threat in running and passing.
- If our DBs dont figure out how to turn around and look for the ball it'll be a long day against McSorely - "throw it up and let tall receivers find it" (or beg for the PI)
- Their Oline has major weaknesses
- Doesn't look like a top5 team to me but they got some pieces that could give us problems (Barkley, tall WRs/TEs that dont drop half their targets and make QB look better than he is, QB with a pulse)
- Ferentz' anemic offense and style doesn't make for a very good barometer of PSU defense imo; it plays right into their hands and one side has much better chess pieces.
- Penn State needed a lot of help from the refs ... especially on defense... blatant targeting / late hit, got away with 2 players roughing the kicker, criminal holding every play on the final drive, a lot of contact our DBs can never seem to get away with, etc.

- Iowa plays good solid D and very opportunistic creating turnovers. They should give teams in the West problems and vie for a trip to Indy. If our offense cant beat this style of defense, we have major issues.
- Their corners are tall, they have some good ol' Midwestern kids at LB... the corn-eating kind that everyone says are 3stars then go on to play in the NFL for years as solid nameless contributors.
- Their offense is just humdrum to me. Similar to PSU it's built all around Wadley, but he's not the hero Barkley is.

It'd be amazing if Iowa was before Penn State as a step-up from the Rutgers and UNLVs of the world before a top-10/15 team like PSU. Iowa is the kind of team on the fringe of the top-25.
But alas, it's after PSU. So I'm really only worried about Penn State vs. our D and whether our O comes out the other side of this existential self-discovery navel gazing mode ... if that works out, then we can worry a little about a post-PSU hangover going to Iowa.

Honestly it reminded me of the PSU game last year. Iowa was getting dominated but PSU wasn't putting points on the board. The difference was they finished the drive with egregious holding while we had JT stand back and get sacked repeatedly. Though both teams had DB's holding receivers left and right.
