The Buckeyes beat out Big Ten foe Penn State for the Under Armour All-American.

Despite always having to fight off some of the best out-of-state programs in the country, having the best instate prospects stay home has always been a top priority for Urban Meyer and the Ohio State coaching staff.

Keeping schools such as Penn State, USC, Oregon, and Alabama at bay, Meyer and crew just did that by landing a commitment from one of the most sought after prospects Ohio has to offer.

After recently signing 21 high school prospects during the early signing period, Cleveland Heights four-star, weakside defensive end Tyreke Smith has announced he too plans to continue his playing days and education at The Ohio State University.

Verbally committing to the Buckeyes live at the Under Armour All-America game held at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, Smith has a skill set that could find him in the mix to crack a very thin defensive end depth chart when he arrives in Columbus.

Using his 6’3 and 260-pound frame, Smith, the fourth rated weakside defensive end, and 60th overall recruit, in the class of 2018 according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, has showcased his ability to rush the quarterback time and time again on the high school level.

As a senior at Cleveland Heights, the newest Buckeye pledge accounted for 70 total tackles, and 11 quarterback sacks, while also hauling in eight receptions for 192 yards and four touchdowns at tight end for the Mac Stephens-coached Tigers.

Building a pipeline into the Tigers’ program, Smith will join another Cleveland Heights alum at Ohio State, as his former high school teammate Jaylen Harris just finished his true freshman season as a wide receiver with the Cotton Bowl Champion Buckeyes.

Keep your eyes peeled as the Land-Grant Holy Land recruiting team will have more on Tyreke Smith and his pledge to the Buckeyes soon.
