We're counting down the days to kickoff with “99 Warriors,” the greatest Ohio State Buckeyes by jersey number, as voted by the staff of Eleven Warriors.

NO. 8 DEVIER POSEY
He ran crisp routes, he had next-level speed, he had a knack for making circus catches look pedestrian and he could shake any defender out of his shoes.

DeVier Posey, a Buckeye from 2008-2011, started his college career by catching a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Todd Boeckman in a 43-0 win over Youngstown State. The rest is history.

WR DEVIER POSEY
2008-2011
b. March 15, 1990 (Cincinnati, Ohio)

  • Big Ten Champion (2008, 2009)
  • Rose Bowl Champion (2009)
  • Sugar Bowl Champion (2010)
Under head coach Jim Tressel, Posey developed into one of the Buckeyes' top offensive weapons. As a sophomore, Posey tallied 828 yards and hauled in eight touchdowns passes, a career high. As a junior, he amassed a career high 848 receiving yards alongside seven trips to the house.

Posey's senior season was cut short due to suspension, but not before he ended his collegiate career with 1,955 receiving yards on just 136 receptions, a per-catch average of 14.4 yards. He added 18 touchdown catches and, for good measure, threw a 39-yard touchdown pass as a sophomore, the only pass attempt of his career.

In 2009, Posey caught eight passes for 101 yards and a score in a 26-17 win over Oregon in the Rose Bowl. The following year, he brought in three passes for 70 yards and a touchdown in a 31-26 win over Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl.

With Posey on its roster, Ohio State won two Big Ten titles in 2008 and 2009.

Posey was drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. He played in Houston until 2014 and then joined the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts. While in Toronto, Posey was the 105th Grey Cup MVP after catching a 100-yard touchdown pass in a 27-24 win over the Calgary Stampeders.

On Feb. 6, 2018, Posey signed with the Baltimore Ravens, who he currently plays for.

We're counting down the days to kickoff with “99 Warriors,” the greatest Ohio State Buckeyes by jersey number, as voted by the staff of Eleven Warriors.

NO. 7 CHRIS GAMBLE
Chris Gamble never left the field during Ohio State's 2002 national championship season.

WR CHRIS GAMBLE
2001-2003
b. March 11, 1983 (Boston, Mass.)

  • National Champion (2002)
  • First Team All-Big Ten (2003)
  • Third Team All-American (2003)
Throughout his Buckeye career, he was a lock-down corner, a game-breaking receiver and a dangerous punt and kick returner. He was one of the best and last truly do-it-all players the Buckeyes ever had.

Though originally recruited as a wide receiver, there was a team need at cornerback, so Gamble learned that position too, and it didn't take long for him to shine.

Gamble appeared in 38 games in his three seasons at Ohio State, starting 18 times on defense and 12 times on offense. During the 2002 national championship season, Gamble started on both offense and defense five different times.

That 2002 season, Gamble had 31 catches for 499 yards, 3 rushes for 49 yards and a touchdown, four interceptions and a touchdown on defense, returned 35 punts for 293 yards and 11 kickoffs for 253 yards – a busy, busy season.

His junior season, Gamble became more of a full-time cornerback, catching just four passes that year. He intercepted three passes in 2003 and earned first-time All-Big Ten honors, as well as third-team All-American honors at the cornerback position.

Gamble declared for the NFL Draft following his junior season and was selected in the first round with the 28th overall pick by the Carolina Panthers. Gamble broke the team's rookie record for interceptions with six, and also led the team in interceptions the next two seasons. He was released in 2013, and retired as the Panthers' all-time interceptions leader.

We're counting down the days to kickoff with “99 Warriors,” the greatest Ohio State Buckeyes by jersey number, as voted by the staff of Eleven Warriors.

NO. 5 BRAXTON MILLER
On a list of the most exciting players to watch in Ohio State history, there wouldn't be many players who rank above Braxton Miller.

QB/WR BRAXTON MILLER
2011-15
b. Nov. 30, 1992 (Springfield, Ohio)

  • Big Ten Freshman of the Year (2011)
  • Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year (2012, 2013)
  • Big Ten Quarterback of the Year (2012, 2013)
  • Team Captain (2014, 2015)
A spectacular athlete who could also make big plays with his arm, Miller made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2011, starting 10 games at quarterback, throwing for 1,159 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushing for 715 yards and seven touchdowns. He delivered an unforgettable moment in an otherwise forgettable season – completing a 40-yard, game-winning touchdown pass to Devin Smith with less than 30 seconds remaining in an upset victory over Wisconsin – and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

In 2012 and 2013, Miller was both the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and Quarterback of the Year for both seasons, as he became one of the electric playmakers in college football. He threw for 2,039 yards and 15 touchdowns and ran for 1,271 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore, then followed that up with 2,094 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns, 1,068 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns as a junior.

Although he missed the entire 2014 season with a shoulder injury, the team captain still provided leadership from the sideline as the Buckeyes went on to win a national championship. Then in 2015 (wearing No. 1), Miller showed how spectacular an athlete he was by moving from quarterback to H-back, catching 26 passes for 341 yards and three touchdowns and running for 260 yards and another touchdown in his final season as a Buckeye.

Miller has continued playing wide receiver since being selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft, and is now going into his third season with the Houston Texans.

Ohio State's all-time leader in 100-yard rushing games (14) by a quarterback, Miller ranks second in Ohio State history in total touchdowns (88), third in Ohio State history in total offense (8,609), sixth in career rushing yards (3,314) and ninth in career passing yards (5,295).

99 WARRIORS: NO. 4, BIG TEN AND NATIONAL CHAMPION WIDE RECEIVER SANTONIO HOLMES

95757_h.jpg

We're counting down the days to kickoff with “99 Warriors,” the greatest Ohio State Buckeyes by jersey number, as voted by the staff of Eleven Warriors.

NO. 4 SANTONIO HOLMES
A three-star prospect and three-sport athlete from Glades Central High School in Belle Glade, Florida, Santonio Holmes arrived at Ohio State after leading the Raiders to a pair of state titles in football and track and a state runner-up finish in basketball.

WR SANTONIO HOLMES
2002-05
b. March 3, 1984 (Belle Glade, FL)
  • National Champion (2002)
  • Big Ten Champion (2002, 2005)
Holmes was redshirted during his freshman season, during which the Buckeyes won the Big Ten title and knocked off Miami in the BCS National Championship. He became a focal part of the offense during his redshirt sophomore season and then led the program to another Big Ten title and a win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl as a redshirt junior.

Holmes caught 140 passes for 2,295 yards and 25 touchdowns in Columbus. He ranks fourth in school history in career receiving touchdowns and sixth career receptions and career receiving yards.

Holmes was selected by Pittsburgh with the 25th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. He was named the most valuable player of Super Bowl XLIII after he hauled in nine passes for 131 yards and the game-winning touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger to give the Steelers a 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

Holmes, who was just the sixth wide receiver to win the award, also played for the New York Jets (2010-13) and Chicago Bears (2014). He retired last October after three seasons out of the league, and finished his career with 6,030 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns.

99 WARRIORS: NO. 3, NATIONAL CHAMPION AND ALL-BIG TEN RECEIVER MICHAEL THOMAS

95778_h.jpg

We're counting down the days to kickoff with “99 Warriors,” the greatest Ohio State Buckeyes by jersey number, as voted by the staff of Eleven Warriors.

Between 2014 and 2015, the Buckeyes were a combined 26-2, beat Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game and downed Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

Wide receiver Michael Thomas was a big factor through all of it.

WR MICHAEL THOMAS
2012-2015
b. March 3, 1993 (Los Angeles, Ca.)
  • 2014 National Champion and 2015 Fiesta Bowl winner
  • Tallied 18 touchdown receptions in his career at Ohio State
  • Set an NFL record with 196 receptions in his first two seasons
After being redshirted as a sophomore in 2013, Thomas made an immediate impact for the eventual national champions in 2014. He caught 54 passes for 799 yards and nine touchdowns, including a four-catch, 53-yard performance in the National Championship.

In 2015, he picked up where he left off, catching 56 passes for 781 yards and nine scores. In the win over the Irish, he was responsible for seven catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.

He was a Big Ten All-Honorable Mention selection as a redshirt sophomore and a third-team All-Big Ten honoree as a junior.

Thomas announced his decision to enter the 2016 NFL draft after his junior year and was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round. In two seasons with the Saints, Thomas has tallied 196 receptions for 2,382 yards and 14 touchdowns.

The 196 receptions is an NFL record for a receiver in his first two seasons. He also holds franchise rookie records for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns.

We are getting real close to the home opener this weekend, if you need a "FOOTBALL FIX" to make it to Saturday, a couple early B1G football games are on the tube tonight and tomorrow:

The Tip Sheet — You Guys, We Made It!

Tip-Sheet-Featured-1170x780.jpg

Welcome to the college football season.
You have put up with so much to get to this point.
Neighbors. Co-workers. Family. Police.
But we’ve made it.

Thursday August 30

Teams: New Mexico State at Minnesota
Time (TV): 7:00 pm (BTN)
Interest: 2
Cheer For: Minnesota

We are children who have never been permitted to have candy and this game is a Necco wafer. We eat the wafer and marvel at the sugary confusion. Is this good? Is this what candy is? Is this for punishment? Can we try another? But maybe just a half because we’re really not sure this is something we’re actually that into.

Minnesota 24 – New Mexico State 10

Teams: Northwestern at Purdue
Time (TV): 8:00 pm (ESPN)
Interest: 4.5
Cheer For: Purdue

You are cheering for Purdue because they are on Ohio State’s schedule. You also have a thing for trains. It stems from your great grandfather being a hobo and your great grandmother being super into hobos. Like, a lot. That’s why you never recognize anybody at the family reunion. This game will be the first step towards somebody in the Big Ten West proclaiming themselves a contender to mighty Wisconsin’s crown. Is Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson going to play? Purdue will be playing two quarterbacks. Could the Wildcats? Not knowing Thorson’s status – or ability even if he is good to go, I’m going with the home team here.

Purdue 27 – Northwestern 24

Friday August 31

Teams: Utah State at No. 11 Michigan State

Time (TV): 7:00 pm (BTN)
Interest: 3
Cheer For: Michigan State

This is going to be our first look at Ohio State’s major competition for the Big Ten East crown this year, so it might behoove you to watch. I don’t know what kind of team Utah State has this season, but I bet it’s probably a lot like last year’s, which I also don’t know much about. I used to know a lot about Utah State, but when all you ever talk about is Utah State and what you know about them, people stop hanging out with you. I used to be the life of the party, but now I’m barely the fly in the punch bowl. So now I try to stay as far away from Utah State facts as I possibly can. It doesn’t help with my analysis-heavy pieces like the Tip Sheet, but these are the sacrifices that I have to make for myself because my priority is always going to be me and it is never going to be you. Like ever. If it is between me and you being chased from roof to roof by the mob, I’m going to trip you so that they stop and deal with you while I get away. This is the life we both signed up for and your penchant for bawling won’t help you when my life is on the line.

Michigan State 38 – Utah State 10

Teams: Western Kentucky at No. 4 Wisconsin

Time (TV): 9:00 pm (ESPN)
Interest: 2.5
Cheer For: Wisconsin

Wisconsin is a 37-point favorite against Western Kentucky, so don’t expect me to talk too long about this game. And I wouldn’t expect you to read that much about it. We’re here to learn who to root for and maybe analyze interesting games with great depth. We don’t care about Western Kentucky’s history or how five of the first six university presidents got the job by assassinating the sitting university president. Their fifth president — Dutch Buchanan — got the job literally by accident when his horse cart ran over then-president Clyde Smithey, and so they just continued on with tradition and made Buchanan — a ginseng farmer — the president. He stayed on the job for 13 years before he was shot dead by Charles Smithey, the 16-year old orphaned son of Clyde Smithey. The younger Smithey is now in his sixth season at Western Kentucky.

Wisconsin 52 – Western Kentucky 7

Wake Forest and Tulane are also on (CBSSports @ 8:00 pm) tonight; however, who gives a shit about that game?
