2018 NCAA Basketball Tournament Discussion (Official Thread)

The way this tourney has gone, i'm counting on Nova suddenly forgetting how to play basketball and scUM coming away with the win.

Yeah, pretty much this. Which is why I've been lamenting Michigan's easy run to the championship game all along. There's no way they could beat 2-3 elite teams, as you typically have to do in order to win the NCAA tournament; but that's the danger with this run of luck they've been on--Villanova is the first elite team Michigan has had to play, and anything can happen in a one-game, winner-take-all final. Like you, I fully expect Villanova to come out and play like complete garbage while Michigan looks like the '96 Bulls.

The only thing that worries me is Nova shooting poorly from 3 going up against a good perimeter defense. But in the end, Nova has too many weapons, too many guys who can score to lose to a much less well-rounded team.
spellman and paschall are also decently athletic and certainly strong post players who can roam. they're not the kind of guys the nazi and especially teske want to face. any minutes without tall hitler should be well in nova's favor. for ttun to have a shot, i think they need to be hot outside the arc. only against tamu has ttun shot better than poor from outside. otherwise, they've shot 31%, 27%, 18%, and 25% from three. ttun has been lucky because they've played middling offenses. nova ain't no loyola, tamu, fsu, or montana. houston had a good offense, and we saw how lucky ttun was.

UM is going to slow down the pace of the game, too. Nova is going to have to remain aggressive and keep their rhythm on offense even though the flow of the game won't be there. Its remarkable how much Kansas played into Villanova's hand - UM won't fall into the trap of playing an up-tempo game against a team they can't outshoot, they know they need to slow it down and try and out-execute.
