2018 QB Battle Discussion

I take your point, but those veteran receivers have largely, to the blame of both system/coaching and themselves, under-achieved. I don't really think Haskins will be one and done, but if he is, we'll be fine. There's more talent on board waiting and coming in than is going out.
We have a lot of veteran receivers that were pretty highly recruited and all have showed flashes of being great, but none have shown the consistency that we need (Micheal Thomas or Devin Smith). We recruited a lot of speed guys in 14 and 15. Since then it seems the staff realized they needed to get a couple strong possession receivers to go with the speed guys. Haskins fate is tied to if Hill can take a step forward and finding a second possession guy to go with him, maybe McCall, maybe Saunders who really seemed to catch everything around him when he saw the field.

We have veteran receivers who can be seen as underachieving because of the expectations had for them coming in. We've seen flashes from Mack and Hill, speed from Campbell and McLaurin, some ability from Dixon in extremely limited playing time, and Victor has now shown signs of stepping up. All of them could be good to great, but none have done it yet. I don't think that's all their fault, but it is a fact. Are they as good as Thomas and Smith? Of course not. Are they better than Philly Brown and Co.? Of course. I'm good to roll with them this year (it wouldn't matter if I wasn't, of course), but my only real point was that it won't be the end of the world if some or all of them leave after this year.

Disagree, Haskins' fate is tied to if any of the WRs can consistently catch the ball. Mack is going to be a very good possession WR, and Victor will find consistency or be passed up by Harris. Hill, Dixon and McLaurin are interchangeable in their skill. I don't Saunders as much but a garbage time player, if he's needed in key moments against the likes of TCU, Ped St, scUM, or Mich St, then we're screwed. I'm most looking forward to seeing Campbell and McCall used in the short to intermediate passing game, because both only need a small amount of clear space to take one to the house.

I think a large majority of the receivers do a lot of things really well. What Haskin's needs this year is a go-to guy; someone he can rely on to make big plays......Consistency (or lack of consistency) has been a key word thrown around with this group of receivers. Hopefully with another off-season of development, a couple guys out of the talented group can emerge as go-to guys to keep the chains moving and help the offense and this uber-talented backfield put lots of points on the board this fall.

Damn just so excited to see what we can do with one of the better arm talents we have had at QB, best running backs in the nation, and EVERY WR returning...

If Dwayne just takes what's open we will roll... why am I more confident this year then last?

I favored Burrow but I know Haskins is extremely talented. He can really throw it and he really can be the QB we have needed since Cardale to get the ball deep.
