Week 11 will be first time in poll era to feature two games involving 8-0 teams

While the Week 10 slate in college football is borderline atrocious on the whole, the sport is making up for it the next weekend with what appears to be a historic set of games on Nov. 9.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, the combination of No. 1 Alabama hosting No. 2 LSU and No. 5 Penn State traveling to No. 13 Minnesota will be the first time in the AP Poll era (dating back to 1936) that two games will take place on a single day involving both teams with a record of 8-0 or better. This is a lock to actually happen with all four teams on their off week so history will indeed be made on Saturday, Nov. 9.



As The Athletic’s Matt Brown points out, we’ve come close to hitting that rare accomplishment before several years ago but it’s still not to the level of what we’ll see in two weeks.



So let this post serve as a reminder to get your affairs in order over the coming weeks. The Tigers-Tide tilt in Tuscaloosa will be at 3:30 ET on CBS while the Gophers-Nittany Lions game likely is ticketed to primetime on ABC or the early noon ET window on Fox. That means no overlap and plenty of time to focus on a truly historic set of games in college football.

Minnesota currently is a 6.5-point home dog to Penn State. That line looks just right to me. They'll kick off at 12 noon in Minneapolis and their game will be followed by the game of the season: Alabama - LSU. It's the first time that two games featuring 8-0 teams will happen on the same day in AP Poll history.

Am I missing a reason why they would reject a night game? Probably the biggest game in a very long time for Minnesota football

Or money, the Gophers might have wanted the network to "pony up" more money for them to agree to a night game.

the narrative has already started.
multiple radio shows and national articles are already saying Bama is in the playoffs even with a loss. Especially since Tua is banged up.

the committee will forgive them.

LSU on the other hand is getting no such benefit of doubt because “we’ve seen this before”. LSU comes in top 5 and collapses in this game.

y’all can negotiate pricing in a per game basis?

hell, we have no say so in kickoff time or network.
CBS get first pick, the ESPN gets next three, followed by SEC Network.

SEC schools (not named Bama) cannot pick and choose which network or time slot.

It was reported that the Minnesota AD rejected the night game; which apparently he could do under the existing Network/B1G TV contract, etc. I believe that it is entirely possible the Minnesota AD wanted some cash to waive is right to object and/or veto the proposed night game.

Alabama gets a "free pass". The selection committee already has the ballots printed that they use to vote on:

They still have to beat Auburn with something less than a 100% Tua to stay at 1 loss.

Nick Saban says Tua Tagovailoa a 'game-time decision' against LSU

Alabama coach Nick Saban said quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be a "game-time decision" when the No. 2-ranked Crimson Tide host No. 1 LSU on Nov. 9.

Saban said on the SEC teleconference that Tagovailoa, who had surgery to repair a high ankle sprain 10 days ago, is progressing well in his recovery and is expected to practice on Wednesday for the first time since the injury.

"He'll be a game-time decision based on how he progresses," Saban said.
