Very early in that Sparty/Mich game I texted my family to tell them how bad Sparty's QB was. I looked pretty stupid by the end of the day because he was Peyton Manning against those turds. Surprising to nobody, he was hot garbage against Iowa. I wonder what could possibly have made him look good a couple weekends ago
I have a feeling that I know the answer to your final question, but I sure would like about 30 people to respond to it with detailed explanations, I have a feeling I would enjoy reading that…

Except this thread is exactly what you would expect from them. OP tries to make reasonable argument but talks out of both sides (do what Bo did! No wait, don’t!) and touts “close losses” to good teams. Then responses quickly devolve into TLDR, academic smack (“the arrogance is well-earned”), bagmen, we don’t need to recruit hicks from Ohio, and brandishing numbers of championships from the early 1900s.

Never change motherfuckers.

True. But the fact that there's actually a discussion (that's about the closest word I have for what that thread is) shows that they may be making progress.

Tradition is earned over time. The arrogance is earned, but must be renewed. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.
The arrogance is absolutely not earned, given that other programs like Alabama and Ohio State have richer traditions with more accolades than Michigan, but aren't nearly as obsessed with their own history as we are.
National titles: Michigan 11 OSU 8

Conference titles: Michigan 42 OSU 38
how about in thelast 100 years?
Jesus H Christ. National titles in the leather helmet era ? And there lies the problem with our fanbase. None of us were alive for the majority of those titles.

That's pretty much what we've been saying!

But you're right. There are many posts where they decide, for no real reason, that they're still better.

The entitlement mindset comes from our academics. We expect our program to be as good relative to the competition, as our academics relative to other colleges.

Anyone who's gone to Michigan knows that almost every department is at the top of the field. Law, medicine, business and engineering are the 4 most lucrative careers, and Michigan is at or near the top for all of them. Outside of the Ivy league and elite privates (Duke) you're graduating with a better degree than 99% of people. The arrogance is well-deserved, because many alumni are very successful, and the name carries a lot of weight. This is true even in NYC.

So of course we expect the same for our football program. At the very least we should be competing for NY6 bowls, which is not a high bar in 2020. USC, PSU and Florida are all similar programs with recent hires & resets that have had more success that us.

That's why there's always a big disconnect between fans who think we've returned to historical levels vs ones who think we could be doing much better.

Well if you got your degree from Michigan, you would understand the logic, but since you obviously didn't you're just not smart enough to understand why they're better.

Why big-time college football programs Georgia, Michigan and Penn State are struggling

Just the free part of the article: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...ograms-georgia-michigan-penn-state-struggling

Just sayin' ESPN is running a premium (pay) article on ESPN+, what ever that is. I'm not really sure about Georgia; but I can tell you with 100% certainty why the Michigan and Penn State programs are struggling (which will save you paying ESPN+ to find out). See spoiler:

THEY SUCK!!!

Kids at Ohio State rock helmets to class and Michigan is a world class institution. Ohio St alum wear cargo shorts and football jerseys in their 30’s. They lose at life.

Head coaches at Ohio State are sought out for college presidencies (Tressel), network jobs (Meyer), and other head coaching positions (Fickell). Head coaches at Michigan slop down food like pigs eating in a trough, pick and eat boogers, don't change their underwear, write with crayons, sleep over with high school kids, and always wear Walmart khakis.
