I don’t blame him to be honest. There’s gonna come a point where the OL has to nut up and move some people on 3rd/4th and short.
Yeah I totally agree. I think eventually he probably should've adjusted but if I'm him I also think "it's 1 yard surely we can get 1 damned yard". Then it's just "Damn really again we can't get it?".

OL has to be better but at the same time I think we could've called a better game too. Don't want 3rd and 1? Then get 1 extra yard on 2nd down lol

I truly think Stroud has to keep it, at least a few times a game, to unlock this offense’s true potential. I know many will disagree, and don’t miss having a QB that runs. That is fine. To me, the added strain it puts on the defense is worth the risk.

Sure, doesn’t seem like it’ll happen, is what it is. But it’s a sorely missed dynamic when the Buckeyes come up against teams with similarly elite athletes.

Pass pro not really except maybe against Georgia. Run blocking yes absolutely.

Agreed; rush woes looks like a combination of missed assignments and lack of physicality. I don’t know if they just expected to roll over PSU and they sort of just got slapped in the face or what but that was certainly one of the more frustrating unit performances in recent memory.

I have faith in achieving improvement as the talent is there; but preparation, motivation to dominate your opponent and discipline need to become more visible in the coming weeks.

Yeah but you run play action and sneak Ruckert out 2 or 3 times and they stop run blitzing every 2nd/3rd/4th and short
That's where I think the play calling wasn't as on point as normal. That's great we want to test the OL to step up but sometimes you have to admit a team has your number somewhere and adjust.

Hopefully there's more bootleg and QB run in general going forward. We don't even need a ton of it but at least a threat of it.

I don't think its a physicality issue at all. PED was just shooting gaps and our guys were really struggling to identify their assignments.

Beginning to wonder if this is the year we'll learn that you really do need natural guards with their lower (relatively speaking) center of gravity.
Doubtful. We did this in 2018 with very similar results.

So far I'd say the OL struggled to run block vs Oregon, Rutgers and now PED. Each of those teams gave up at least 305+ yards passing though. Those teams sought to take away the run and were okay in doing so (still rushed for +128 in all 3 games). If a team wants to take something a way it's always at a detriment to something else.

Eventually in 2018 we said fuck it and threw for 400 weekly. Now that's something I hope we don't do but perhaps it's what we do early in games. For example instead of trying for balance early maybe throw for 280 yards by half time and race out to a 35-10 lead. I'd imagine a team would lighten up to stop getting killed through the air and that's when we hit them on the ground. IMO just way too many plays vs PED/OU where we got nothing on 1st down and if you couple that with snap infractions on 2nd down it's tough to keep the chains moving that way. I love the commitment to running the ball but I don't think it's coincidence that we finally started breaking runs when we started finding success through the air.

Absolutely agree. We don't need him to be Braxton or JT, but there are times when, even at my advanced age, I could move the chains. You take the 1st with the run and then get back on schedule. Also, there's no guessing as to what he's going to do - toss it just before the line of scrimmage. That just makes him the reciprocal of JTB; still a one trick pony, just the other way. The O in RPO stands for Option and if you don't take the R now and then, we'll be less effective.

Sorry for the many posts on this page but there's lots of good points being made. 1000% agree that for this offense to take the next step we need Stroud to run more (particularly in the red zone). He doesn't need to do it much but yes how many times is he going to run up to the line then hover sideways? Just take off and get 5+ yards.
