If our offense is clicking I think we win fairly comfortably even if Corum plays (im sure he is going to be trotted out but who knows how healthy he will really be)

McCarthy having to make plays in the pass game to keep up is going to be ugly for scUM. He struggles to hit open guys when he actually has to and the WRs just struggled to get open anyways to begin with. Their only passing offense is dink and dunk to the TEs, which isnt going to play well in a high paced game of catchup if thats what it comes down to.

scUM essentially has to stay even or be ahead all game to have a shot to win. If they fall behind 2 scores it could get ugly. Harbaugh and crew seem destined and due to fold like a lawn chair in that kind of situation.

The first rounds of possessions of this game will be very key. Gotta jump out to a early lead and keep it that way.

Wait, we were told all summer that _ichigan's WR room was as good as anybody in the country? So now they're saying they suck? We were also told that the only reason Simple Jim wasn't letting JPJ air it out was because they didn't have to. Weird that they're now saying their WRs suck and that they needed some...suspect...officiating to bail them out of JPJ's inability to do anything through the air when they really needed him to...11 games into his second year.

Here's what they are: They're an offense that lives and dies with Blake Corum. I'll give them some credit in that they didn't slip up a couple of times like most of us expected them to, but they haven't exactly mowed through a murderer's row of a schedule. Corum has also far surpassed what I figured he'd do; I thought he'd be pretty good, he's been excellent. But, if he cannot play, or is hobbled, I don't expect them to do much Saturday. If they do, we have some very serious issues. Simple Jim is in his 8th year and has yet to field a qb that scares anyone. JPJ was, by far, the highest-rated recruit he's landed and at the end of his second year in the program, he cannot be counted on to win you a game if you need it. That was proven against Illinois.

If we don't beat them handily Saturday, I have very serious questions about the state of our program. We are worlds better at the most important position, blow them out of the water at the skill positions and they've provided 12 months worth of bulletin board material. Our guys better come out there angry, motivated and thirsty for blood.

The WRs aren't good, there's no dancing around that. But it seems like Harbaugh also does not trust Jumpy Pass McGee to air it out down the field very much either, and we saw why against Illinois, his decision making isnt the greatest when the pressure is actually on. He's way over due for a couple of bad INTs, luckily for them they didn't come against Illinois. They only won that game because Illinois offense shits the bed against any somewhat capable defense. If they are stumbling for FGs against us its going to be a long long day for them.

I'm never all that confident going into the The Game(PTSD from the Cooper years still), but this is the most 1 dimensional I've seen scUM since Hairball has gotten there. I honestly think they could have a better passing game with McNamarra. Focusing mainly on the run with Corum has made McCarthy regress, IMO. There's little timing with his WRs, and because they had success all season running Corum into the ground, they decided to make that option their entire offense. Edwards is nicked up constantly like Henderson, but OSU can use 3 RBs, toss in X Johnson and even Chip Trayanum as a body as well and still find some success(Trayanum is still up in the air as we have yet to see him carry the ball).

For all the gripes about OSU's run game, OSU has seen mixed success runnning with 3 different RBs. And Stroud and the passing game is known to everyone in the nation. 1 trick pony offenses don't win big games, unless McCarthy plans to pull the greatest game of his collegiate career out of his arse.

WRs not named Marvin Harrison need to step up as well... They've been on vacation the last 2-3 games...

not that your point isnt valid i did want to point out that EE had 6 catches (all for 1st downs) for 82 yds this past Sat

Yes. Egbuka really fell off after the Sparty game.

Since that game he only has 259 yards in 5 games. After having 4 100+ yard games in the first 6 games (and no game under 70 yards)

Though he did have a decent game vs Maryland on Saturday.

IF Corum doesn't play, Edwards has a broken hand and the 3rd string RB may have a concussion. Maybe they also have a former PWO who's electric in space and a LB who is a former RB :roll2:

Friday is going to be the most important day of the week. That's when we will have a better shot at knowing who will be toting the rock for them primarily. I can see some gamesmanship from Hairball, and him trotting out Corum, only to use as a decoy and then sit. Edwards will be limited, and the rest of their RBs are serviceable at best.

22 vs 22, and this game is a crap shoot if both teams are 100% healthy. But at this part of the season, every team has to worry about injuries, and this is where recruiting and development kick in. scUM hasn't been in the same stratosphere as OSU in recruiting, and they rely on their starters to be in college for at least 2-3yrs, before they actually produce. The fact that OSU fans are so spoiled when we have a healthy true frosh RB who could be the best RB on the field, arguably the best WR in the country has been on the sidelines all year, and replaced by a new best WR in the country, a starting OG could be out, but I don't think anyone sees much drop off if Vimahi were to start/play, and the list can go on about players that can step up for OSU. But scUM doesn't have the same level of backup talent.

If McCarthy comes out playing with the typical OSU ability bump, I might kick a puppy. Hopefully his insane ego he somehow has despite not being any good will counter it.

The main concern I have with him is the QB run. I just assume teams will get at least one arm punt a game so I don't have a stroke. But I expect McCarthy will be used heavily in the read game along sweeps, QB power and the inevitable PA pass off of those. Looking for Chambers to spy him on passing downs.
