Because they don’t want Rich Eisen and Dave Portnoy ranting about “the biggest miscarriage of justice in sports history” for the rest of eternity. They don’t want to be on ESPN every day nonstop for the next 4-5 years. The NCAA has an egregious history of both coveting their public image and selective enforcement (just ask SMU). Why would the NCAA want to piss off every other program by letting the Weasels skate on the biggest cheating scandal in college football history ?
After a lengthy and I'm sure a very expensive investigation, that all interested parties (like Vegas) will be watching, that their response is going to be .... "We have no balls so everyone should just disregard that we even exist and do whatever the hell you want."
