Belmont Brings Inside-Outside Challenge for Buckeyes
By John Porentas

No. 25 Ohio State will put it's unblemished 5-0 record on the line against the Belmont Bruins (3-3) in a game scheduled for an 8:00 PM tip Wednesday night at the Value City Arena. Belmont will make the trip from Nashville, Tennessee in the hopes of putting that first loss on OSU's record.

"They're a very good basketball team," said OSU Head Coach Thad Matta.

"They play a lot of guys, they have a very good low post player, they have guys surrounding him that can really shoot the basketball. They like to put a lot of points on the board. They're very sound defensively," Matta said.

The Bruins are led by 6-11 junior center Boomer Herndon. Herndon averages nearly a double-double with 15.7 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game in Belmont's first six outings.

Herndon's inside presence is complimented by 6-3 sophomore guard Justin Hare and 6-2 junior guard Josh Goodwin. Hare leads Belmont in scoring at 16.3 points per game, and Herndon is not far behind at 15.7.

Belmont has been strong offensively in compiling their 3-3 record this season, but has had problems defensively. They are averaging 81.3 points per game, but are also giving up 83.8 points per game. The Cougars are also having turnover problems, averaging 19.0 turnovers per game.

When the Cougars aren't getting the ball down low to Herndon they like to shoot the three. Belmont averages 9.3 made three pointers per game and is shooting 38.4% from three point range.

I honestly think this could be a challenge. With our pressure trapping defense, I think that Belmont could get some open 3's. If they knock them down it could be close. If not we could run away with it. Then game has the same exact feeling as the butler game. Hopefully they come to play tonite, b/c once again don't expect the crowd to be hopin'.

out of curiosity, for the "nobody" opponents like this one, do they sell tickets at the gate? Anyone know how cheap the scalped tickets are, or is there too little demand for scalpers to brave the cold?

thanks in advance.
