#25 Ohio State vs #21 Minnesota, Sunday, January 3, 5:30 EST, BTN

Well, that was the game that was:

Minnesota 77 - Ohio State 60

Shooting 31.7% and coming out on the wrong side of the rebounds, assists, blocks, turnovers, and steals stats won't win very many games, especially against a top 25 team.

Regroup and get ready for Penn State Wednesday.

  • This marked Jallow's return to the court after missing the win against Nebraska due to contact tracing. His absence was only for one game.
  • Meechie Johnson and Ibrahima Diallo remained sidelined. Johnson's continuing to go through testing and protocols before working his way onto the court in practices then games. Diallo is out indefinitely with a knee injury.

I posted a reminder this morning then completely forgot to watch the game. Doesn't look like I missed much. Damn.

Ouch. That was a tough one to watch. Aside from Washington, not much positive to say about that performance. At this point of the year, I'll just chalk it up to a bad night where nothing went right and everything went right for the Gophers (which is my honest assessment) and hope we don't see that again. The team is capable of good ball, tonight just wasn't it. Need to try and be even-keel this season, conference play is going to keep being brutal.

Chris Holtmann

— This was the most physical game Ohio State has played in.

— Didn’t feel like physically we came out like we should have in the second half.

— Our league is good and you learn from experience. EJ Liddell will learn from experiences like this against bigger guys. But the guards were physical too. “We didn’t handle it well. It was across the board. And certainly that’s my fault. We’ve got to get them more ready for that physicality.”

— They have played better against size and will do that again but they didn’t make good enough decisions in the paint. And they had some shots inside that just didn’t go down.

— This is the best Minnesota team they’ve played.

— CJ Walker is struggling with his thumb injury and it’s limiting him offensively a bit. And he’s also probably pressing a little bit right now. Those two things have impacted him but he’ll respond. He’ll continue to rehab and get it in a better place. He’s frustrated that it’s probably bothering him more than he’s let on.

— Asked if the rotation is too large right now to make a big comeback happen, he said that’s a possibility. Still trying to work out the best groupings for certain situations. “I think it’s a valid point. We’re playing a lot of guys. Some new guys and some young guys. We’ve just got to look at it across the board.”

— “We’ve got to do some things better, there’s no ignoring that. That’s what you’re looking to try to do here as you’re moving forward.” Give Minnesota credit “but I think we can do some things better to put ourselves in a better position.”

— “I thought Duane was good offensively for the most part. I know he had three turnovers. His ball handling needs to improve.”

That one sucked. Erase that shit from the thought process and play harder and smarter. Same song keeps playing for guys that are shooting like shit. Work harder on the other end and get to the basket and the foul line. Really need a floor general that can get them to refocus out there. Not sure we have one this season
