#25 Ohio State vs. Rutgers, Dec. 8, 7PM EST, ESPN2

Just watched the whole game on DVR, what a great effort against a very good Rutgers team. I'm glad I didn't watch live because I would have flipped my shit at the refs on some of those foul calls. Credit to our boys weathering the storm though, very very proud of them.

Losing the lead at the end and not giving up? That is a sign of great coaching and team culture.

Agreed. CH teams seem to always have that fight in them in tough games regardless of the talent level on the roster...that game looked lost and we somehow managed to pull it out. I think there is plenty of talent on this team though, every night I think it will be a different mix of guys that step up...Sueing and Key will likely be the primary guys in scoring along with Sensabaugh, but Thornton is showing some real scoring ability and any of McNeil, Gayle or Holden seem like they could get hot on any given game. Okpara hopefully will keep progressing, need him ready to play against the B1G bigs next season, but the nice thing is I don't think he's needed immediately and can learn under Key.

I'll temper expectations somewhat, but this team looks much better than I was expecting. I didn't catch the loss to SDSU, but the loss to Duke really wasn't all that bad on the road and the wins over TTech and Rutgers are very impressive, and blowing out Cincy is nice...looking at the schedule, I was moreso expecting a .500 record and here we are 7-2. Would be awesome to somehow pull off the next game against UNC, the next few games should be wins before a big matchup against Purdue.

There’s no requirement to get two feet back in bounds to establish being in.

So, if he went out “of his own volition”, he can’t be the first to touch it coming back in. I don’t know if was reestablished prior to Thornton passing.

But if his momentum carried him out, he just needs to reestablish one foot prior to touching the ball.
Bilas says it shouldn’t have counted. Oh well.

“Before hitting the game winner, OSU’s Tanner Holden was out of bounds before stepping back in to catch the [Bruce] Thornton pass,” Bilas wrote on Twitter. “After stepping OB, you can’t be the first to catch it. Violation. Tough break for Rutgers.”

Yeah, I think he falls under the “went out of bounds on his own” rule and not the momentum rule, meaning he would have had to reestablish himself and not be the first person to touch it. Tough call to get right in real time!

I honestly don't know either way, my knowledge of basketball is very limited. But is that Bilas reciting football rules? I know that is the case for CFB in terms of illegal touching when a WR goes out of bounds, but not sure that applies to CBB? If it does, it is the first time I have heard of the rule.

quick search of the Google machine agrees with Bilas (who usually seems to know his shit).

Sometimes you get away with one.

Well I learned something new today then. That's gotta be a really tough one to call in live action. But it was a really even game and we had plenty of BS calls go against us before that. And that was an incredible shot that went in. Since it didn't go against my team, I'll allow it haha.

That’s where I fall, too. I can find plenty of bad calls that went against OSU earlier in the game, but the bad one at the end is the only game-changer? There was a sequence in the first half where Key got pulled down from behind in the paint on the offensive end and then at the other end, a Rutgers player threw a shoulder into a defender allowing an easy layup for his teammate. Both no calls. I bet Rutgers fans could find plenty of shitty calls that went against them, too. It’s the nature of officiating these days. It blows across the board.

I’d feel a little bit worse about it if Rutgers wasn’t riding Thornton up the court with no foul call right before the shot.
