3rd Saturday in November.

Should The Game be kept on the third Saturday?

Understanding the tradition of The Game being on that certain Saturday in November who would be fine with a The Game being played on the fourth Saturday but still the last game of the year?

Advantages
  • Bye week for injuries
  • Extra week of practice
  • One more week keeping the Big 10 and the Buckeyes in the news

I vote for The Game to always be 3rd Saturday of November. We don't need a bye week. We don't need more time to have Buckeye news. (That would be more time for the media to try to make a mountain out of a mole hill, anyway.) Let the rest of the world play their final games. The pressure is on them. The Big Ten is done with their games.

By the way, it is not unheard-of for The Game to be played after Thanksgiving. 2001, Ohio State played in Ann Arbor the weekend of Thanksgiving. I'm fairly certain that it was scheduled that way, but maybe I'm forgetting if the games were all delayed because of 9/11.

One advantage of it would be cutting down on the long layoff between the end of tOSU's season and the bowl game / NC game.

I forgot about Thanksgiving being that next week, though.

I think that we should have our last game later in the year. I don't like the 50+ day lay off in between our last game & the bowl game.

One you get past a certain point, the length of the layoff is irrelevent. Little difference between a 45-day and a 52-day layoff.

True, I would rather play the Saturday after Thanksgiving (2-3 days). If (I know it's an IF), but if we played then, there is a huge difference between a 35 day layoff and a 52 day layoff.

Just curious. How old are you guys?

I know the general age of those defending the current setup. This is just for reference.

I'w 32 and I say that as long as it rewains the last gawe of the Big10 season, who cares what weekend in Novewber it falls. Playing the 4th rather than 3rd Saturday takes nothing away from the gawe (other than it not being the same week as wy birthday.

Obviously I ask because typically younger people are more willing to do away with traditions than older people are.

I like the system as it is, because I visit family out of state on Thanksgiving. That would mean choosing on even years between my Buckeyes and my family. And I don't really want to get written out of the will.
