Five Ohio State Teams Ranked in Top 10
Women's and men's basketball, men's gymnastics, football and men's tennis within the Top 10 nationally; 12 teams in Top 25

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Five of Ohio State's 36 sports hold a spot in the Top 10 polls, nationally. Women's and men's basketball, men's gymnastics and men's tennis currently are ranked among the nation's elite, while football finished the season ranked fourth by both the Associated Press and coaches polls. Twelve teams finished the season or currently are ranked in the Top 25.
The women's basketball team is currently ranked the highest of all Ohio State sports in the polls. The team is second in the nation in the AP poll and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association/ESPN/USA Today polls after winning the Big Ten tournament. The Scarlet and Gray won the out-right Big Ten regular season title as well. The No. 2 ranking ties the highest all-time for Ohio State in women's basketball.
Men's gymnastics is No. 3 in the GymInfo National Rankings. The team is undefeated in the Big Ten and tops the league with a team average of 215.183. Ohio State is No. 1 in the nation on parallel bars and is tied for first with Stanford on vault. Jimmy Wickham (So., Gulfport, Miss./Planet Gymnastics) earned a spot on the U.S. National Team at the Winter Cup Challenge, Feb. 3-4. Wickham tops the nation on vault with a 9.567 average.
The men's basketball team is seventh in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls. The Buckeyes secured the outright Big Ten regular season title to earn the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament. Terence Dials (Sr., Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman) and coach Thad Matta were awarded 2006 Big Ten Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively. The Big Ten title was the 18th Big Ten outright regular season title in school history.
Men's tennis is ranked No. 9 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll. The ranking is the highest in Ohio State history. With an 11-1 record, the team is off to its best start since the 2000-01 season. The Buckeyes also boast the No. 1 doubles team of Ross Wilson (Sr., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and Scott Green (Sr., Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales). The duo has a record of 15-2 on the year and a 10-1 dual match record.
The football squad finished the 2005 season fourth nationally. The team led the nation against the rush during the season, allowing an average of 73.4 yard per game on the ground in 12 starts. The team was fifth in total defense and scoring defense. The Buckeyes ended the season with a 10-2 record and shared the Big Ten title. The season ended with a 34-20 win over No. 5 Notre Dame in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
