I've actually been more worried about this game than I had been for the scUM game. I hope we go over their gimmick offense a few times here this week, because they were no slouch when we played them at home

If this game did not have the significance that it did, this would be the perfect "trap" type of game. The fact that we are playing for a championship should undoubtedly provide the focus and motivation needed. It will be a battle, that's just the way it is on the road, but I like our chances.

Does anyone else see this as a similar scenario to March, 2005: Illinois coming into the Schott?

Only this time, we're Illinois and Northwestern is Ohio State.

Living through that game and the run-up to it can play in our favor. Matta can mentally prepare the players.

No, not really. Illinois was undefeated and going against an above average team with a great coach on the road.

This situation is a very good team will be on the road against a very below average team. Our seniors will get it done.

I agree and the while the game meant an undefeated regular season it wasnt that big of a game for Ill. They already had the big ten wrapped up and we were playing like it was our superbowl.

We will be playing with all we got at NW b/c it will determine wheter or not we win the big ten.

I can see your point, though I believe a win for NW is a longer shot being on the road.

Buckeyes must beat Wildcats, Purdue to win league outright

Terence Dials is the only member of this Ohio State team who was on the court the last time the Buckeyes won a Big Ten men’s basketball championship.

"It was a great experience winning up on Michigan’s floor," said Dials, who scored 11 points as a freshman when the Buckeyes won a share of the 2002 title in Crisler Arena.

He wants a greater experience his senior year.

"Hopefully, we can cut the nets down at home," he said.

The Buckeyes moved closer to that perfect ending over the weekend when they beat Michigan in Value City Arena on Saturday and, hours later, Iowa lost at Illinois.

The turn of events gave Ohio State (21-4, 10-4 Big Ten) a one-game lead over Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin with two games to play in the conference season.

The Buckeyes can clinch at least a share of the championship by winning one of their last two games, at Northwestern on Wednesday or at home against last-place Purdue on Sunday. Two wins would give them the title outright for the first time since 1992.

"The focus right now is Northwestern," Dials said. "They’re a tough team to beat at home; they’ve had a few upsets there. We just can’t think the Big Ten championship is ours right now."

The Buckeyes have defeated Northwestern 12 straight games, including a 61-52 victory nine days ago in Columbus, and have won the past five meetings in Welsh-Ryan Arena.

But the Wildcats (13-13, 5-9) have beaten Wisconsin and Iowa in their most recent Big Ten home games and, after losing at Penn State on Saturday, are desperate to keep alive hopes of playing in a postseason tournament. They finish with home games against Ohio State and Minnesota.

Dials and fellow fifth-year senior Matt Sylvester are the only players on this Ohio State team who were members of the 2002 team.

Sylvester took a medical redshirt that season because of a herniated disc in his lower back. He has suffered from tightness in his back this season and played only 17 minutes Saturday.

Sylvester missed the first Northwestern game because of the problem. He started the past two games but Saturday disappeared from the sideline for a portion of the second half. When he returned, he lay face down on the floor rather than sitting on the bench.

Sylvester’s back tightens "when he sits or stands," coach Thad Matta said. "They just tried to keep him loosened up and going. They had a machine (off the court) that he was on that was keeping him in a light sweat."

i believe OSU goes into NW and drops the hammer..
if these guys were going to choke a game away it would
have been a few games back...i just like the mental make-up
of this team..not too high..not too low..kind of like the way butler
plays
