Aaron Craft, The former Ohio State point guard (2010-14), who stands as the school’s leader in career steals (337) and assist leader (694) and is listed at # 2 in games played in his career (147) is heading back over the big pond.

Craft who spend the final parts of the 2015-16 season with the Santa Cruz Warriors of the D-League’s affiliate of the Golden State Warriors had also spent a little time in Europe with the Hungarian team, Szolnoki Olaj KK of the Nemzeti Bajnokság. He has just signed with Aquila Basket Trento, a team in the in Serie A Eurocup league, which is out of Trentino, Italy.

The move is a promising step for Craft who appeared stagnated in a loaded system of the powerful Warriors. In the announcement of the signing Craft spoke to the D-League Digest about playing in Europe when he returned to the Warriors earlier this year.

“It was interesting. Basketball over there is a little different,” Craft said. “The way they like to play, things like that. So that was an adjustment. But, once you get used to it it’s not so bad. It just wasn’t a great situation for me. The team’s doing pretty well so just trying to make a decision that’s best for myself and hopefully this is it.

“Overseas basketball is interesting. The times where you’re supposed to foul in transition and things like that. Shot clock is the same but shorter quarters. It’s a little interesting but you get used to it not too bad.”
Would Craft head overseas again?

“I think so,” Craft said. “Like I said, the situation just wasn’t great for me. If an opportunity arose that I thought was good for me, then I’d have no problem doing it.”

Well he is … and the situation is good for him now.

Aquila Basket Trento in the 2014/15 season, their first in the Serie A Beko, finished up in fourth place. Their leading scorer was American forward Tony Mitchell, who’d also be the League’s MVP and best scorer. The team was bumped off in the first stage of the playoffs by the eventual champions Dinamo Sassari, losing 3-1 after winning the first game of the series in Trento. In previous years’ Aquila Basket won several championships in the Italian minor leagues moving up the ladder from Regional Divisions to the Serie A in less than 20 years.
The need for a spunky and fiery ball handler and hunter is clear in Trentino, Italy. They found it too in our very own Aaron Craft.

Craft’s deal is reportedly for one year and the terms were not mentioned in the announcement.
