"Acquired" a copy of Windows Vista

Here's what Vista looks like, the "my computer" screen. Course the big deal is they got rid of the "my" prefix so it's just "computer" now. Notice the clear windows and how it blurs whatever is behind it...really slick looking.

This is IE7...notice any similarities? Honestly it sucks...I spent a good 2 minutes using it before I was running back to Firefox. Firefox is still more intuitive and easier to use than IE7.

New program, Windows Calender. It looks like they're gonna split up Outlook into Windows Calender and Windows Mail. Each doing what it sounds like. I would assume so that if you got a virus through your email, all your contacts and appoinments' emails wont get infect too, as such is the case with Outlook viruses.

Finally, the coolest feature, Windows Switcher. Vista uses hardware acceleration to 3D render all the windows (helps with the blur and clear window effects) but also lets you do cool things like this...basically it's like flipping through the windows like pages in a book.

Well...is it any good? Hard to tell, its a really early beta and you never know whats gonna be kept and what's gonna be added. As of right now, it has nothing that isn't already in Mac OSX. A lot of the "killer features" (dynamic, no-wait search function, etc.) are still awkward to use - not nearly as simple as the Spotlight function in OSX. The new menus will take some getting used to as well...they did change a lot though. It's not a re-hash of XP by any means.

I have run each release, alpha and beta, as they've come out. It will be pretty cool when complete. I like IE 7 so much that I even installed the beta of it on XP now. Vista still full of some holes, is a bit slow, etc.......course it's only beta 2, so they have a ways to go.

Am running 5270 now. Each build seems to correct little things here and there. I actually very much like the layout of it and such. Like ya'll said, it reminds me of Mac OS - even has a Unix-like directory structure and whatnot. They steal everything, put it all together, and still make it more appealing to me than Apple or any of the flavors of linux.

I too "found" vista here 2 months ago.. curtosey of newnova.org. IE7 is awesome but I had a helluva time getting it off my machine and back to XP, and in the end it was easier to reformat, so before anyone downloads it i recomend backing things up
