Guys, I keep seeing advertisements on BP for General Motors South Africa. Are you seeing these? Is it possible that the thread on the car companies brings BP advertising revenue? If so, what does that say about the threads we should start?

Not sure if this is ad related, but it's happened twice over the past couple of days, and only when I'm on BP.

I open up a thread and ie attempts to open up adobe reader. I get Remote access attempt warning on ie, and a pop-up bubble from ESET Smart Security.

ie warning.

Some of the networks - Google, at least - can use keywords to match content, sometimes with humorous results. In other cases, they would be targeting by location, so that may also just be what's running for your area. We'll be doing the same with in-house ads, so you probably won't see anything we run for Columbus businesses unless you want me to add South Africa for that hometown flavor. :p

Checked the log info against what I could here and nothing appears amiss. With the ad network security and the iframes to corral the ads, it's most likely a coincidence that it's happening while on BP, but let's see if anyone else has seen anything similar.

Also, was it in the same or different threads? If it happens again, anything you see in the status bar, and a page source if you can grab one, would help with further checking.

OK, vent time. I fully know that BP needs ads to keep up and running, but Jiminy Fucking Cricket, does every mother fucking ad have to be a God-damned animation or Flash Video? Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I'm on cable modem (speed is no real issue), but unfortunately am stupid enough to use IE 7 and the browser just locks until all ads are loaded...can't scroll, links won't work, nothing until everything is loaded. I even just had a Lysol ad video take up so much bandwidth loading that Windows Media Player locked up while playing an MP3 until the ad finished loading. These mother fuckers had better be paying C-Dog plenty for this shit...

I just got shit all over my screen...scUM ads...really?

Can you be more specific? The top banner is called a leaderboard. The skyscrapers are on the right side of some menu/listing pages, and the threads have one 300x250. Where are you seeing scUM ads, in what form, and what specifically do you mean by "shit all over (your) screen?"

Not being snarky. Just need enough info to actually consider the problem.

I'm mostly seeing Snickers, Ford BCS tailgate, ESPN360, some Jetblue and various other mostly higher quality targeted ads in those spots.

Twice now I've had some ad scroll across my screen from the left. I don't have any other info on it because I just click and close before I really think about getting screen cap. In any case, it's happened 2 times in the last week or two. If it happens again, I'll try and remember to get a pic.

The more porn sites you go to the more popups you get, er so I hear.

I've seen it, it's an ad survey bundled with one of the campaigns. I haven't been able to figure out which yet, but I'll admit I've found this one less annoying than others in the past because it's not a true pop-up. That's not to say I'm fine with it, or that I won't have it removed if I can associate it with a specific provider, but it disappears on its own pretty quickly so that at least is a positive.

Still watching for it myself, because it doesn't open in a browser window, I'm not sure how best to figure out where it's coming from. Best bet is just to take note of where you are when you see it (a thread, forumhome, etc.) and what ads are being displayed on that page at the time. That way we can narrow it down to showing up when a specific ad is up. I'd be more annoyed about it if I didn't assume it will just go away when the current FSV campaign ends. On a 5 minute or 2 minute (depending on the day and what's going on) reload 24/7, I've only seen it 2-3 times over the last two weeks. Again, that's not to imply that I'm okay with it.

It was on the skyscraper ad, and it was just advertising scUM gear, think it was a Nike ad. I posted it semi tongue and cheek.

Edit: More likely it was Adidas.
