Flight delays constant flight delays....you just can't fly and count on the fact that you will arrive on time. It is absolutely absurd how bad it has become....

My wife had a meeting in Chicago last Wednesday morning. Her flight out of CMH at 3pm on Tuesday was canceled with no real explanation. The airline booked her on the latest flight out to O'Hare that night, like a 9:30 departure. Last flight of the day. There were storms coming in that night and she had to be to this meeting. She opted to drive to Chicago. Got there around 10pm. The flight AA had booked her on ended up being canceled.

Glad I hardly ever fly.

If it's under a 5 or 6 hour drive, never fly.
I am about 7 hours on the drive scenario anymore. I also opt to go a day early and get a hotel just to ensure that I am there when I need to be. Sometimes you are just glad to get there or get home with the way it works out. Southwest used to be good and they are probably still the best at ensuring that your flights happen, but they have gotten worse since they bought out Air Tran and now send a majority of their flights to Atlanta. I have to go to Minneapolis on Wednesday and my flight goes from Indy to Atlanta to Minneapolis...that makes a fuck of a lot of sense....heaven forbid it goes through Midway (they don't fly Indy to Midway anymore since the merger) or direct....

London Heathrow, changing planes. Yuck. Need to go through security, and it's the most intrusive security I've ever encountered. Was 10th in line, and the experience took 45 minutes. Groping, drug/explosives swabs on half my stuff, interrogation as to why I carry so many plugs, chargers and other wiring (hey, I like my electronics. Sue me.).

Don't change planes at Heathrow.

I'm more worried about the new baggage retrieval system they've got at Heathrow.

Sitting in KC waiting for our flight on Southwest. Never flown through here before and hope I never have to again. Men's restroom has one urinal, no restaurants to speak of and you have to leave to get to anything, which means coming back through security. What a shithole....

I spoke of that airport earlier in this thread.

Was stuck in the world's worst airport last week.

The Kansas City Airport is an absolute abomination.

It's shaped like a huge horseshoe with no one main area for security so you have to go back through security if you want to eat at a restaurant.

We had nearly a 3 hour delay on top of an already existing hour and a half lay-over so to kill time we wanted to eat dinner but had to leave the secure area to do so.

What a horse abortion.
This.

After traveling this past weekend, a few annoyances that come to mind.

4) When the stewardesses say it is now OK to turn on cellular devices and people frantically scramble to get to their cell phones like it's an oxygen mask in outer space. Jesus people, get a freaking grip!!
.

I recently realised that there is something even more pathetic than that. Flew recently from Italy and it was an 530AM early morning..oh correct that..a late night flight because I had to get to the airport in the middle of the night when practically everyone is asleep, which mean no public transportation. And then seeing all the passengers chattering on their cell phones like there is no tomorrow...at 5 AM in the morning. I never never ever thought about it that the other side of the line must also be awake.. just what of urgent importance do they have to tell each other in those wee hours??

also big annoyance, cheap tiny sadistic airports that feel like prisons. There are dozens of examples in Europe, but to name one Venice-Treviso has those sadistic uncomfy metal cold benches with armrests and power points that didn't even work unless you happend to own a very specific plug with the right prongs. Every main european plug works in Italy, but they made it in such a way that you couldn't flip the lever unless you had a power supply with cords and not the box things. I mean, who does that for an international airport?? I guess the designer of that terminal really hated humanity.

last but not least, airports that are ridiculously far away from the city. It is not even worth flying anymore. Worst I have seen so far are most capitals in the Nordic countries, reykyavik, stockholm, oslo...you can take a 30 min special high speed bullet train from Stockholm Arlanda.. if you have like 530 crowns to spend (55 euro). Get this, most scandinavian capitals have multiple official airports bearing the name of the capital. Oslo has oslo-rygge, oslo-gardermoen and oslo-torp. Stockholm has stockholm-skavsta,stockholm-arlanda and stockholm-vasteras but they are all nearly 100 km away from the city. Why is that so necessary, because Lisbon airport is only a metro ride away within the borders of the city. The logic of some airport locations are completely out of line, for example Narvik and Harstad (Norway) share an airport which make the distance to both towns around 30km, you will also be depending on a one hour and 25 euro shuttle bus (ONE WAY). It was better to take a flight to Kiruna and then take the train to Narvik. Kiruna in arctic Sweden has it's own aiport which is relatively near town for scandinavian traditions with 7km and your only option besides walking is a 30 euro taxi van. Well, if you know Kiruna, then you have probably heard that it is a mining town and because of some damage under town they are trying to relocate the entire centre, oddly enough one or two kilometers towards the airport, thus shriking the distance between airport and town. Now I have heard that to good old scandinavian habits, the airport is way tooo close to town and they might put the airport somewhere else as well. Special note, if you are interested in going there, the plans have been scheduled for the year 2033 so this might take a while. Also the world famous ice hotel isn't even in Kiruna, or near Kiruna, 17km/11mi away in a village named Jukkasjarvi.

edit reason: didn't know this was a US forum, sorry about this
