Alabama 41, scum 14 (final)

"We didnt play Michigan football today."

You're right, you barely played football at all, Bama did.

It is a pathetic, mindless, arrogant attempt to pretend that they lost the game rather than giving credit to Alabama.

Rich Rodrigues' Arizona team did not play TSUN football either. They beat Toledo to open the season.

Very happy with the outcome. It was tough pulling for the SEC, but man, Michigan (and almost everyone for that matter) needed that reality check. scUM is not a good team, certainly not top 10

Sometimes it's good to embrace your inner redneck, get drunk, and yell ROLL TIDE at your TV for a few hours.

I stopped reading after you said Bama is "good."

Heaven forbid your ego take another blow. Bama will probably lose this year at some point. Michigan looked a hell of a lot worse than bama looked good. Bama looks like they could contend for a nc this yr. Michigan looked like rich rod snuck back.

If you've read any of my posts in the two years, you would know the last thing I have is an ego. I knew we wouldn't beat Bama, and said as much in this thread several days ago. I also said this team would take a step back and lose several games this season. They were overrated with their preseason ranking, which only furthers the notion of preseason rankings being ridiculous.

But, I woke up this morning and the world had not ended. Getting crushed by the defending national champions is nothing more than a reminder that the SEC is still where it's at in college football. I don't see anyone, other than USC, challenging them on the national level right now.

Michigan should burn that game film and move on to Air Force. I just hope Countess and Lewan didn't suffer any serious injuries.

I stopped rooting for UM when it got to be 14-0 as it was easy to see where this game was headed.

That said, I think that Hoke should take some serious heat for this loss. It was visible in the offensive game plan that he just wanted to get out of this game with his players intact. It was obvious to me that Hoke went into this game not trying to win, just trying to stay alive.

Denard isn't a drop back QB. Stevie Wonder could see that. This team as it is currently constructed should be focusing on letting Denard run the ball. Last night Hoke didn't want to go there because he knew that Denard would get carried off the field in several large Ziploc bags if he had gone that route.

The problem with playing to Denard's strengths is that he also isn't very durable. That's a problem.

Lewan is also a liability as he is good for about 25 yards in penalties a game. Didn't matter last night but it could down the road. He has been that way since he arrived and doesn't appear it's going to change.

I was not impressed with UM last night as I thought they would put up more of a fight and I was surprised to see Hoke come in and basically concede before the ball was even snapped. Serious step back last night.

Lewan's also a liability because as a left tackle, you're not supposed to get your ass pushed ten yards back every play by the opposing team's defensive end.

Throw in the fact that Michigan has the most wins in CFB because of 63 games they played before Alabama was even a state, the result of the Civil War, red state - blue state, Big 10 V SEC, Denard for Heisman bull shit, all of which will be an integral part of the pre and post game hate fest. A very unfortunate choice for an opening game. I anticipate an embarrassing loss for UM and the BIG. I fear the loss of Denard for the first half of the season. This will be a capital L

I've re-watched the Va Tech game twice. Someone clearly found a way to hold Denard to a couple of big runs, but the guy gets away with four hail Mary's and then the refs on the field and in the booth totally screw the gobblers.

I don't know what to make of Dennard. He's exceptionally quick for the first ten - twenty yards and there aren't very many players faster for the rest of the field. BUT he makes horrible decisions in throwing the ball. He was unbelievably lucky last year in terms of TDs to Ints. There is no doubt that he can score from anywhere on the field, but there's also no doubt that he's vulnerable.

Shameless self promotion, send cigars.

'Bama actually looks better than last year on offense. And their defense is still damn good. They look like a complete team now.
TSUN has no TEs and their WRs are not as good as last year. Their D line is not as good either. They are just not as good as last year. 8-4 or 9-3 team.

I think it is surprising that Michigan has no RB to backup Touissant. Look at tOSU and we can easily go 3 deep, albeit with a different skill set and experience, all guys are worthy of seeing extended field time. Then you look at Bama bringing in a true freshman RB and he rocked the ScUM defense and he isn't even the starter.

I have to agree that it seemed like Hoke played not to get Denard hurt. Bama was more than happy to let Denard sit in the pocket as most defenses would because he isn't going to hurt you with his feet. Did Kalis play?

I still remember George Wallace standing at the admissions door, "Segregation now. Segregation tomorrow. Segregation forever!" the bridge into Selma, the church bombings, arresting Rosa Parks. And that's just Alabama.

It'll be a cold day in hell before I ever root for a team from the ol' South. Either that or they'll be playing Notre Dame, in which case I'm all about forgiveness and moving on.

Did I think Michigan deserved a #8 ranking? Anyone who watched their bowl game realized that was totally unrealistic. Anyone who watched them eek out a win over an Ohio State team playing with one healthy linebacker was at least skeptical.

Likewise any Ohio State fan who thinks Michigan getting drilled by 27 (and it could have easily been much worse) on national TV, Penn State quitting in the 4th, Minnesota needing 3 overtimes to beat a sub MAC team, Wisconsin beating a MAC team by 7 and Michigan State trailing Boise State into the 4th quarter helps the Buckeye case for ranking is unrealistic.

Annoying as it is, the SEC, SEC, SEC chant, gets it right. Your team is the sum of its conference members and their opponents.

I honestly don't care about conference prestige anymore. It is largely a fabrication by ESPN to promote their ratings and agenda in the first place. Trying to stack up to the SEC is pointless because they are going to be continuously fluffed by the ESPN borg regardless of what actually happens on the field. The mindless drones that swallow their drivel hook line and sinker aren't going to be convinced of anything else no matter what facts are presented to them.

Until the $$$ points in a different direction and the agenda at the mothership changes (if it ever does) it is a waste of time to worry about.

The only impact it has is the ridiculous amount of mediocre SEC teams that are overrated in the polls every year and when ESPN pushes for a rematch between two SEC teams like last season, but with Ohio State not going to a bowl game this season I am not even worried about that right now.
