Aliens: Colonial Marines

BigWoof31

"Barkin' up the wrong tree"
Fans of the Ridley Scott Movie are going to love this FPS. Online Multiplayer modes put teams of Marines vs. Teams of Aliens. It looks awesome.

Alot of the reviews seems to conclude that too much effort was put into trying to recreate the look and feel of the Aliens movie and hardly any was put into "what am I trying to have the player do in this level??"

More sizzle, less substance.
That's a shame, I had hoped this would have been a great game. Something to bridge the gap between Dishonored and Bioshock

I'm sorry, but I saw this a mile away. My instant inclination when I heard about this game was that it was a movie based game that was likely mostly fluff.

This one was slightly different than your typical movie tie in. There is no movie released at the same time (therefore no rushed timeline), was developed by a studio that had recent success (although recent failure too), and the Aliens franchise had some good games in it although most are over a decade old now.

Yet, as we found out, Gearbox outsourced much of the content and there were issues with Sega (the publisher). Sadly it turned into a tale of how not to develop a game, especially one based on a cherished IP. It also didn't help that they flat out lied about the game through the demo they displayed.

Played the game a few weeks ago with a buddy. We beat the story mode in two nights, but it probably could have been done in one. Overall it wasn't terribly impressive, looking more forward to the new Army of Two game at the end of the month. Aliens was definitely a one and done kind of deal, although the multiplayer mode online may be more rewarding. We didn't try it out.

The multiplayer story mode is fuckin' frustrating if you're trying to sit down and play it with a buddy split screen. There isn't an option immediately visible for it when you sit down, it looks like they only give you an option for single player or multiplayer over LAN/internet. We were able to do split screen after selecting single player campaign, and then adding a player...but long story short it didn't save any of player 2's accomplishments or weapons. So, on the 2nd night player 2 had to restart mid game with shitty weapons and you couldn't pick up the ones you missed...which made finishing the game a real bitch. Made it a real pain in the ass when your buddy has 3 different shotguns and multiple rifles and you're stuck with your starter rifle and a shitty pump action shotgun.
