I have often seen posts on here from fans of certain professional sports teams stating that such and such a team should draft someone from the Bucks early in the draft (whether football or basketball), usually higher than they are projected to go, or that said team should sign a Buckeye alumnus just cut by another team or struggling to find a team in free agency. I must admit that I am just as guilty of this practice than anyone.
So I was thinking, could the Cavs replace its entire roster with Ohio State alumni and regardless of success in the win/loss column run a successful franchise by claiming to be "Ohio's team"? Would you cheer for such a team regardless of record? I have to say, I don't pay a lot of attention to the NBA, but I definitely think I would follow a team of only Buckeyes.
Frankly, I don't think a current line-up of Conley, Cook, Hunter, Koufos, Oden (if healthy), Redd (if healthy), Turner, Mullens, Lewis, Penn, Harris, Foster, and Stockman (these were all the players I could find playing professionally somewhere) would fair all that much worse than the current Cavs lineup.
For the record, I simply choose the Cavs because obviously it would not work with any other professional franchise. This is no indication of the current state of the Cav's franchise.
So would you support a pseudo Ohio State professional basketball team even if it was not particularly successful? What if they played a couple of games a year in Columbus? Changed its colors to scarlet and gray?
