Vernon Baker, earned his Medal of Honor in 1945. But he didn't get it until 1997. He was the only recipient that day still living as the MoH was awarded to seven African Americans who deserved it due to their actions in WWII.
Out of over 400 MoH recipients from the Second World War, these seven men were the only African Ameericans.
