Any firemen on this board?

I'm not, but my former roommate is. He went to Akron for a firefighting degree, which I don't believe is a requirement to be a firefighter. Even with that degree he is having an impossible time trying to get hired as a full time firefighter anyplace. Right now he's working part time at two smaller FD's, between the 2 he works 50-80 hours a week. The only problem is that he doesn't get any benefits, which isn't good if you're a fightfighter. Every time he goes to full time fire departments he blows away their tests, but he can't seem to get hired. It sound like there are a lot more firemen out there than there are jobs. If I were you I would recommend that you go to a volunteer station and work a little bit to see if that is what you really want to do. If you can get hired full time you can't beat the hours.
