Are the Buckeyes more geared for a Ntl. Championship in 2010 or 2011

It's called you win the national title and then get fat on it
Or it's called you don't hurt your biggest weapon in a TD celebration so that your team loses it's deep threat and the team your playing can just blitz all day because they don't have to worry about anybody but gonzo.

Don't blame this on in and out burger...that place is heaven. tisk tisk.

I don't see us losing another football game until 2013

Yeah, not buying that one.

Q. What does a qb need in order to throw a deep ball?
A. A quality job by the OL so he has time to throw.

Troy wasn't going to connect on any deep ball because he would have been decapitated by Harvey before he got the chance to throw.

This game and the LSU game should show people that the line play is what determines wins and losses 99% of the time.

These losses just exposed the bad recruiting of OL that has plagued us until the 08 class. While I am not saying the 08 class are a bunch of stars yet, I am enthused about the line's progression toward the end of the year. But go back and look at who we took in 03 and 04 on the OL: projects and "diamonds in the rough" except for Boone who didn't live up to the recruiting hype.

I don't mean this to be aimed directly at JXC. I am just tired of seeing the Ginn excuse; Ginn wasn't going to do anything except make the score 41-21 instead of 41-14. UF exposed the line play and unless Ginn was going to play left tackle against Harvey then the game wasn't going to be affected in any real fashion.

So to bring this back to the topic of whether the Buckeyes are better geared for 2010 or 2011..... its all on which year the lines will be better, not which year Pryor will be better. I will wait to reserve judgement until I see who returns for 2010.

Then you say exactly how Ginn was going to change that game that drastically.

In the end, its still about line play. Its about RJ Francois dominating our OL, about Harvey going around Boone like there was no tackle at all, about UF stuffing Wells (I think) when Tressel went for it on 4th down, about LSU getting enough pressure to block a fg and about Troy running for his life the whole game.

Line play is extremely important. I'm going to use my Bears as an example. Everyone in Chicago is ripping Cutler and Forte for being trash, but the Bears have no offensive line. It starts with the offensive line. Does anyone think Tressel's play calling is an issue too? I think he's too conservative on offense, and while it may work against the Big 10, I don't think it works against these spread offense schemes in the SEC.

And the thing about In-and-Out Burger was a joke. I've never been there, and since I don't eat beef anymore, I don't ever intend to

There were several reasons why OSU lost so badly against Florida.....

1.Everyone said OSU/scUM was the title...similar to what I have heard about this year's SEC title game. Florida on the back end "snuck" in and heard that they didn't have any shot. Add to that OSU's fast start and those points became OSU's thinking of Florida and of themselves. OSU didn't play hard.
2. The loss of Ginn hurt. It pulled probably 1/3 of the plays that OSU wanted to run out of the playbook.
3. OSU went away from the run game way too fast. The only offensive score OSU had came because of Pittman running. To slow down a set of DE's that want to tear your head off you need to run where they have been coming from. They don't rush as hard when there is a thought that the other team could run to your vacancy. OSU failed to do that the same way they did against scUM the game before. It really helps out your tackles.
4. The O line wasn't prepared either. Boone admittedly drank himself into an oblivion after the scUM victory.... that is all I needed to hear to know he wasn't going to be ready.

I understand it hurt our perception as far as fans but I don't see that it hurt us as far as voters. 2 BCS Games that we were chosen to play in and one that we earned our way back into. The perception is changing.

The biggest unknown on the schedule next year is Miami. I do not follow their program enough to know what they lose from this year. Harris has been really, really good at times, and horrible at others. What is up with Miami and skinny QBs?

Whoever we play in the Rose Bowl will be hyped. Sports Journalists have already stuck their necks out to claim the Pac-10 is the best or second best conference in the country. If Oregon State beats Oregon, they will have to continue to sleep in the bed that they made for themselves.

If Miami is healthy, they'll be good. We're extremely young this year. We've had problems with injuries this year, but managed to still do OK. Our DL has the potential to be better than the 01-02 teams IMO. Allen bailey will be a top 10 DT if he stays next year.

2010 preview
Biggest question on defense will be CB. Biggest strength is the depth/quality of play at DL. MLB will be a question mark but the S/W backers are solid in both depth and quality. Like I the biggest thing on defense is who will be the #2 corner. Brandon Harris is a good corner who will be great next year IMO. #2 worries me now, but we'll talk after spring ball about that.

Biggest question on offense will be offensive line. I think there's talent, just not enough experience for next year. Biggest strength will definitely be the skill position players. Ridiculous depth at WR and RB. TE's will overall, be average, bgood run blockers, but probably won't spread the field.

Coaching: Randy Shannon has never met a TO he's never liked. Offensive coordinator is pretty darn good IMO. . .aggressive play caller. Defensive coordinator is average. Running the same defense Shannon ran when he was the DC here.

2009 starter.......2010 starter...........upgrade/downgrade
DE: Gibson..........Williams..............slight downgrade
DE: Heyward.........Heyward...............slight upgrade
DT: Denlinger.......Larimore..............upgrade
DT: Worthington.....Simon.................upgrade
LB: Homan...........Homan.................slight upgrade
LB: Rolle...........Rolle.................slight upgrade
LB: Spitler.........Sabino/Sweat..........upgrade
_S: Coleman.........??????................major downgrade
_S: Hines...........Hines.................slight upgrade
CB: Torrence........Torrence..............slight upgrade
CB: Chekwa..........Chekwa................slight upgrade

I'm assuming that Heyward and Chekwa are staying and Gibson is leaving. I factored in a slight upgrade for each returning player. Larimore proved this year that he's a better payer than Denlinger, and Simon is probably the most talented DL on the team (yes, that's right - more talented than Gibson or Heyward). Nate Williams is a similar player to Gibson who has received valuable experience during his first two years, and should be able to take a step up as a starter next season. The only major loss is Coleman at safety, where the Buckeyes have no viable replacement at this point.

If Heyward were to leave, then that would be a major loss as well. Rob Rose (possible medical redshirt) and Melvin Fellows (never played a down of college football) would be his likely replacement, and both would be definite major downgrades.

I'm not really concerned about Chekwa leaving early, as Torrence is the real lock-down guy on this team, and there are plenty of young players with talent who could fill the vacant CB spot. I'd say that Chekwa's replacement would definitely be a downgrade, but perhaps not as great as most people would assume.

It might be surprisingly difficult to replace Anderson Russell as the nickel back.

The offense essentially returns intact next year, and the schedule is favorable, so it looks like 2010 is the ideal time to make the championship run.

Nice analysis...

Gotta think that if Gibson leaves that between Thomas, Wells and Fellows, one of those guys steps up to add depth to the DE position...Would really love for Gibson to return though...

Heyward will play inside and outside, and Larimore, Simon and Goebel will be very strong...all with pretty great motors...

Let's also remember Moeller was slated to start before he was sucker punched and so it would not be a stretch by any means to see him back as a starter at LB...

Lot's of talent in the secondary....Johnson got valuable playing time this year...

I think we are spectacular on D again next year though as you said, Coleman is going to be a major loss..

Gotta love our chances in 2010!!

Better question, does Pryor have a choice? It will take a hell of a lot of improvement for anyone to want him.
I think his junior year will be his breakout year, just like it was for VY at Texas. Depends how high his stock is though. I think the real thing holding him back is Tressel's play calling. Pryor would have a field day in the spread offense. Tressel really should open up the playbook IMO

i can guarantee two wins over miami the next two years

Go Bucks

Miami is going to be really good next year. 2 years from now I believe Miami can be a top 10 team. I think Jacory Harris is going to break out in the next few years and they have some scary receivers. Their defense is really young and they have athletes that make plays. Those games against Hurricanes are going to be tough and I wouldn't over look them if I was an Ohio St. fan.

Well said. I got a buddy who goes to Thug U, talk is swirling already next year of possibly a BCS game for them, and maybe even playing for the national title in 2011
