The idea originated with a discussion and first attempt to combine roasted bacon with the taste of open flame toasted marshmallow on a stick.

:slappy:

My first thought upon reading this was:

It's "puff, puff, pass" with the pass being the operative word here.

But seriously, though, I think you're on to something... keep up posted, please.

It was a discussion that began on a rooftop of a house in Ocean Beach, Cali at a drunken party. The house in question has an open flame fire pit up there so it had a large number of drunken idiots gathered around it. I wanted some marshmallows to roast and someone else talked about bacon and OCBF said something about bacon wrapped roasted marshmallows and it was ON. I ran to the local store and bought bacon and a bag of those marshmallows that are a mix of pink and white. We crammed bacon strips into some small metal ramekins and roasted them in the oven downstairs for awhile until they were 3/4 of the way cooked and semi-shaped like cups to hold the marshmallows. We didn't want raw bacon but wanted it to be able to be crisped up as desired per person. Then ran back upstairs and passed them around along with the marshmallows and some untwisted coat hangers. It was semi successful, but everyone agreed the taste combo was great.

I don't know how BP can GPA an entire though-process, idea or the combination of the two, but some sort of award needs to be given NOW for the idea and effort, and then another, greater award later when this idea invariably succeeds like no culinary success has succeeded before.

I will vDonate to the cause. For actual bacon piecrust, real dollars, and how.

Do you think 9" aluminum throw away pie pans with a woven bacon "crust" in them would cook efficiently on an open grill?
Man oh man. Hope you have those life insurance premiums paid up on about a $2mil policy on hubby. Clearly his life expectancy is taking a big hit here.

Once he croaks, you and I have some talkin' to do. :pimp:

Use two pans. Poke holes in the bottom of the one with the bacon in it. Put small rocks / pebbles / salted diced potatoes in the bottom of the second one and put the pan with the bacon in it on top!

MS Paint schematic to follow...

Bacon Pie...

Bacon-Pie1.jpg

Ingredients:

12 slices bacon
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
1/3 cup chopped onion
2 cups milk
4 eggs
1 cup baking mix
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
Directions

Heat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Grease glass pie plate, 10?1-1/2 inches. Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Drain, crumble and set aside.
Sprinkle bacon, cheese, and onion in pie plate.
In a medium bowl, stir milk, eggs, baking mix, and pepper with fork until blended. Pour into pie plate.
Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.

I know that I'm a little late on this but that seems like a bad idea since aluminum doesn't conduct heat very well. I would suggest a cast iron skillet, it heat evenly and you could use more heat which would help cook the bacon thoroughly. Sometimes I make my own deep dish pizzas here at home and I use always a cast iron skillet, it works wonderfully.

Forgotten Project

This got put on indefinite hold way back when. But is still in my "gotta try this" recipe file. We didn't have bacon for a long while(not "real" bacon) but we do again. Belated thanks for all the advice way back when!
