  • Let Me tell you how much I hate banks. I went to the bank Yesterday and deposited a few checks. I start talking to the teller and ask him when they will be available to write checks off of, and he tells me that since a copuple were out of state checks that I would have to wait until the end of the week for the checks to clear. So I ask the teller, why is it if I write a check now and the person who gets the check has the right equipment that the money can be taken from my account that day, however you can't do that to them. Needless to say jackass didn't have an answer and I just roll my eyes and left as he stammered

What [censored]es me off the most often about banks is when I'm waiting in line for a very basic transaction (usually a deposit that I don't want to do in front of the homeless guys at the ATM out front), and one of the bankers will ask me back to their cubicle where ... IT'S A TRAP! Not only does the simplest of transactions take several times as long, but of course the whole purpose of the sit-down is for them to review all my accounts and push products I already know I don't want.

I know that kind of "sales" is part of the job: I worked for a bank during college, in a grocery-store branch where we had to spend so-much time walking the aisles trying to sell grocery shoppers, and it sucked for a reason--people just want their personal banking to be quick, easy and free.

I'm kind of ticked at Huntington...So I had to withdrawl quite a bit of cash from my account as we wanted to pay cash for a car. A. They wouldn't give me more than $5,000 cash. B. I had to let them know 1 week ahead of time if it was more than $5,000. Never heard of this before

I work in the banking industry (granted in a different country) but get where you guys are coming from. A few points though:
    - Cheques can't clear same day but typically do within a 1 to 3 business days. But holds generally come down to if you have the money to cover the cheque or if you consistently deposit the cheque and really the bank is just covering its ass for fraud, etc...
    - Banks also don't carry a crap load of cash on hand for security, so yeah if you want $5k+ they generally you will have to order it. That being said this should be communicated better since I do run into clients all the time that are similarly surprised
    - As far as the sales trap its annoying but isn't going anywhere
    - Also good job leaving TD, they are one of my banks rivals so less business the better

I don't trust anyone who spells checks, cheques.

Hey! Where ya been, Mister? Long time no see!

I'm back (at least in the evenings... work and their blocked sites makes BP a no-no on the office computer). I spent the second half of '09 prepping for the GMAT, knocked out applications, and switched jobs to allow me to go back to school and pursue an MBA... then spent '10-'12 working full time/school (earned an MBA from OSU, I guess that's important when taking the context of this board into consideration :tongue2:)... Graduated in the spring... convinced my wife (and both of our bosses) we needed to go to Europe for a month and just "chill" shortly after graduation.

Recently have spent a lot of hours in the office, however we've also spent a lot of time traveling (leisure)... way more than I (we) should. We have another big trip coming up then I think it's back to reality (I'm guessing baby gbearbucks will be coming up at some point as well... held her off for eleven years... I think the time has come...).

basically been pinched for time. Now that life is back to normal I plan on sticking my head in here to try and keep up (although I have a lot of catching up to do around here :))

btw, good to "see" you as well (and I accepted your friend link from several years ago today... sorry... wasn't around to accept it earlier :wink2:)
