Interesting to see that Notre Dame is hovering around that magical #12 slot...if Oregon, West Virginia, and Texas Tech all win out (and they all could) Notre Dame could be in trouble, with the weak teams they have remaining.

Here's the interesting thing with the bcs this year that I haven't really heard anyone talking about. It's no longer as important where you are ranked in the Harris and Coaches polls, but rather how many points you receive. Therefore, where in past years it was always beneficial for the teams in front of you to lose so that you could move up, this year it is also important that the teams immediately behind you lose as well so that you can take their points. You know there are voters out there that have Oregon, Florida and Texas Tech ranked above us, so theoretically everytime one of those teams loses, we get a few extra poll points.

Edit: We'll just forget that one

You guys are editing it out, so I think you now know that the .850 is the computer component score. That's the 4 computer rankings added together, after taking out the high and the low. It's 85% of the top score possible, which is getting 25 points in each of the 4 computer polls used.

To get a perfect BCS score of 1.000, a team would need to get every first place vote in the USA-Today Coaches and Harris Interactive polls, and be #1 in 5 of the 6 computer polls.

Should Alabama stymie LSU, then Auburn do enough to beat Alabama that would for one thing take LSU out of the picture entirely. The LSU ranking is almost entirely dependent on the human polls - one more loss and their computer ranking gets in line with likely drop-off in the voter polls.
That should put Georgia (with Shockley back at the helm) in with Alabama in the title game (I think). My bet is that Georgia would win this one. Bama would be out, LSU out.

This is the important stuff that has to happen beyond Ohio State's control to put us into a great position for an at-large bid.

Of course the stuff under the Buckeye's control comes first - this week Northwestern at home. And then The Game in AA. Win out, one game at a time and the future looks good. Should Penn State fall to the Spartans, very bright indeed.

1 USC, 2 Texas, 3 'Bama, 4 Miami, 5 Penn St, and 14 West Virginia are in charge of their own destiny in getting BCS bids, at this point (winning their respected conference).

Those at-large bids are gonna be interesting!
6 VaTech -- ACC -- at Virginia, North Carolina, ACC title game? (if Miami loses 1 more)
7 LSU -- SEC -- at Wake Forest, 24 Georgia Tech, Virginia, SEC title game?
8 Ohio St -- B-10 -- 25 Northwestern, at 21 scUM
9 Georgia -- SEC -- 15 Auburn, Kentucky, at 24 Georgia Tech, SEC title game?
10 Oregon -- P-10 -- at Washington St, Oregon St
11 Notre Dame -- gay -- Navy, Syracuse, at Stanford
12 Texas Tech --B-12 -- at Oklahoma St, Oklahoma

Alabama may have the hardest remaining schedule. USC's is no push over either, with Fresno State and UCLA remaining.

This is gonna be an EXCITING finish of the regular season!

ND is in the top 12 only because they are so vastly overrated by the human pollsters. Their situation is almost as sickening as the BE champ getting an auto bid.

Excellent point. As always we control our own destiny to an extent. We only have one problem (or two). All those human voters who are in love with Notre Lame may help them jump us when it comes down to it. Either LSU or Bama will play Georgia in the SEC championship. As mentioned before, Georgia has a better chance with Shockley back. But that still doesn't change the fact that Penn State will get the nod for the BCS and we're on the outside looking in. If Notre Dame wins out, and with their weak ass schedule is a distinct possibility, those voters may bend us over when the final weeks unfold. It may be 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, then either LSU/Bama/Georgia vs. the RIDICULOUS Big Least bid. The fact is we've got two things going against us. The Big East auto bid and the human bias towards the domers. Hopefully when those SEC teams lose they drop below us completely instead of clogging up that area around rank 6,7,8. But nothing makes a damn bit of difference if we don't win out. We gotta get it done.

:osu: Go Bucks!!:osu:
