BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

The good thing about MSU losing is that they need to beat PSU to make a bowl game. This may be a better game than anybody thinks.

Don't forget the revenge factor.

PSU put it on MSU to the tune of 37-13 on the final weekend of last year. It cost MSU a chance to go 6-6 which, iirc, would have made them Bowl eligible.

I think we are going to be #8 in the BCS when it comes out. We need to move up 2 more spots to get an at-large bid. A LSU loss to Alabama, and a Miami, FL loss to Florida State in the ACC championship would do it. I really think, with an SEC championship game...and how high we are rated now, that it's going to be tough for 2 SEC teams to stay ranked ahead of us in the BCS...which is how it is now. So I think we just need to see, Virgina Tech, Miami, or Penn State lose, and we are in. Also...I don't know if it's a given that Alabama would be ranked ahead of us if they lose to LSU. It'd be close. A 1 late loss team sometimes gets ranked behind a 2 early loss team.

Notre Dame pissed me off. The Coach's poll has them ranked ahead of Va Tech and Georgia...and we are ranked below. THEY LOST TO MICHIGAN STATE!!!!! We lost to right now the #2 and #6 team in that poll. If anybody should be #7, it should be us, not Notre Dame.

Yeah we lost to MSU but I honestly think it more the result of ND just playing a bad half. A loss is a loss, but I have no doubt ND would kill them if they were to play again. I have to remind myself that even though they are doing much better this is the first year in CW's system. The offense showed progress right away while the defense and special teams are starting to come around as of late. I actually saw an ND defensive back turn around and make a play on a downfield pass yesterday. Seems like it had been years.

Give me a fucking break. VT will move behind OSU because they have played nobody!!! They were exposed!! UCLA, VT, and FSU losing will move the Buckeyes up 3 spots. ND's remaining schedule will screw them out of a BCS bowl. I hope Alabama beats LSU...WE MOVE UP ANOTHER SPOT. If osu is in the top 6 in the BCS they will go to the Fiesta Bowl. That Bowl comittee loves the Buckeyes because they travel well.

Plain and simple...win out and we'll be going to the Fiesta Bowl.

Coaches poll: VT 8, tOSU 10
Sagarin computer: VT 6, tOSU 7
Colley computer (per BCS guru Rich Tellshow): VT 4, tOSU 8

We need to move up 2 more spots to get an at-large bid.

There is nothing magical about tOSU being #6. Top 6 only automatically qualifies non-BCS conference teams like Notre Dame, Fresno State, and MAC teams.

Woulda couda shoulda...we could do the same thing and say with a non-rusty QB we win both our games and we're currently #2 BCS.

Bottom line is we both have 2 losses and we beat the team you lost to. No way anyone can say ND being ranked ahead of OSU is due to anything other than media bias.

And the fact that ND went to the wire with the champs. Also is it ND's fault they are popular??

ND's performance against USC was impressive, but really no more so than OSU's performance against Texas. And the argument isn't that it's ND's fault for being popular, but that it's the pollsters fault for letting a brand name blind them to what should be a pretty clear decision.

I could see if it were the AP or old UPI poll but this is the coach's poll. As for Texas all I will say if you guys had not played them most of you would not have a Texas hard-on. You certainly didnt think they were all that great last year.....

edit- Changed "you all" to "most of you" so Bill wont get pissed at me again! LOL!!

It's both the Coach's Poll and the Harris Poll (which is arguably more of a joke than the media poll). But that has nothing to do with it; it's not a question of who's doing the rankings, but whether the rankings are consistent with the games that have been played.

That's a silly comment. Texas is a very good team that deserves their top 2 ranking. Are you disputing that?

Not at all, but IMO USC will smoke them in the NC game. Bottom line if you guys had not played them most of you wouldnt have that hard-on....

Who said Domers couldn't be trained?

But seriously, what do you really mean by a hard-on for Texas?

The fact that Texas gets credit for beating a top ten team on the road isn't particularly mystifying, whether you want to call it a "Texas hard-on" or not.

All irrelevant predictions on the likely BCS title game aside, the fact remains that ND went toe-to-toe with the #1 ranked team and OSU went toe-to-toe with the #2 ranked team. So far, so good, and fairly even. Beyond that, though, ND lost at home to a dangerous but currently unranked team, whereas OSU lost on the road to another top ten team. Your USC hard-on induced predictions for the Rose Bowl don't outweigh that. Well, maybe they do, but they shouldn't, and that's the point.
