BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

Another proud Buckeye moment. My 7 year old daughter just called from her Christmas ginger bread house making party to tell me that she heard someone on t.v. say that Ohio State will be playing Notre Dame. Now that's good parenting.

Could you write it any better?

I was just thinking about how great today was for the Buckeyes and for college football in general. I don't think today's results could have been written any better.

We needed Texas and USC to win out to protect our at large bid. Then #3 LSU AND #5 Virginia Tech both drop, and as an added bonus, #23 Fresno drops to unranked Louisianna Tech - thus negating Oregon's only claim to a quality win and thus raising some real questions about ND and Fresno's "quality losses" to USC.

Here's how the bowl selection should go.
Rose Bowl gets the 2 best teams in CFB, Texas and USC.

Orange Bowl pits the 2 winningest coaches of all time against each other (and Joe Pa will hang one on Free Shoes U for the Big 10)

OSU gets ND for the all-time tie breaker (2-2 against ND and the Domers are in over their heads)

Georgia gets the BCS bid they deserved all along despite dropping games without Shockley and West Virginia ... (well I guess it turned out nearly perfect) :)
When the dust settles, the Big 10 should have the #2 and #3 teams in the country. I haven't been this excited since 2002!

I find it VERY hard to believe that if USC beats Texas...that Texas will drop below Ohio State in the polls. It would have to be a beatdown. If the Rose Bowl is a close game, the loser won't drop below 3.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. I would love to see Texas beat USC, and have the final poll end in this manner:

1. Texas
2. Penn State
3. Ohio State
4. USC

However, the poll would not end that way in reality. It would more likely be:

1. Texas
2. USC
3. Penn State
4. Ohio State

So, the only way Ohio State can move up in national rankings is if Penn State would lose, and I do not want to see Penn State lose. I root for all Big Ten teams in Bowl Games (argh, even scUM, but man that goes against every fiber in my body), and I truly want to see Joe Pa add to his bowl win total. It is bad enough that Bowden stole the all-time wins stat from him, but I would hate to see Bowden tie Joe Pa for Bowl Game wins as well (20 apiece). Joe Pa currently has 20 and Bowden 19.

In the end, the Buckeyes finish the season where they are... a very respectable 4th. I'll be right proud of that. Knock ND off their high horse OSU!!!

Are you on fucking crack? Fuck Penn State. I also root for all other Big Ten teams, when it doesn't negatively affect us. Penn State's winning their game will keep us from jumping them, thus I want Penn State to lose.

As for the loser of Texas-USC dropping past #2, I don't think it should happen unless one blows out the other. They are the only two remaining undefeated teams and are ranked #1 and #2, light years ahead of everyone else. The winner should be #1 and the loser #2 (barring a blowout) with the rest of us jockeying for the best remaining rankings.

Just for the sake of argument, if Penn State loses to FSU doesn't that make the Big 10 look weak and doesn't it invite the question, "is the Big 10 better than the ACC?" Whereas, if Penn State wins, and we win and Texas wins BIG, doesn't that invite the following comparisons, "wow, the Big 10 is stronger than I thought, the Pac 10,ACC and ND are weaker than I thought."

I certainly understand your sentiment, but there are times when I think what's best for the conference, is also best for OSU. Maybe not in the immediate polls, but certainly in the opening polls for next year.

I don't think Penn State will have much trouble with a mediocre Florida State team. I predict a hellish blowout score with Florida State unable to score against their defense and Penn State putting points on the board, almost at will. :)

Exactly. Besides that, it justifies our loss to PaSt in a sense, elevates the B10 in recruiting and status nationally and sets up the beat down we give them next year!
