BCS predictions/discussion/Knock Em' Off

For all the hand-wringing that is done about the existence of preseason polls, I doubt that many people will note that 2 teams not ranked in the preseason polls will be in the top 3 of the first BCS standings of the year.

hey it's great that Mark May and Rece Davis are on the "Ohio State shouldn't be #1" bandwagon....

Somewhere Trevvie is rubbing one out to an 80 year old Catholic priest or something....

Only Holtz was defending us saying he (if he still was coaching) would much rather play USF than Ohio State.

Yeah, Reecie and May both keep Cal at #2 last week even though they were idle and tOSU dominated a #20 Purdue. But this week tOSU only goes to #2 because S. Florida has played the better teams.

Excuse, me, I've got to throw up now....

I really don't think BC is good.
1. OSU
2. USF
3. OU
4. BC
5. LSU
6. Oregon
7. Kentucky
8. WVU
9. USC
10. Va Tech

That is exactly what people said about the Buckeyes all year long in 2002. Who is to say that BC is not the Buckeyes of 2007?
Here is the poll list that I care about. it has all my choices on it.
1 Ohio State

The part I'm really starting to wonder about is why people think the Big LEast is that much better than the Big 10? I understand that USF beat WVU and Auburn; but what if their conference is just as bad (if not worse than) as the Big 10 supposedly is? The schedules are essentially the same between tOSU and USF. Then it comes down to how the two teams would do on a neutral field. Thus far, I would have to say that I believe the upperhand would go to tOSU.

USF does have two huge quality wins: at Auburn, and at home against WVU. Those are big, and there's no arguing that. In this sense, what Rece and May are saying does have *some* merit. But the polls have never been exclusively about who has the most quality wins. You can only beat the teams that are on your schedule, after all.

In reality, the polls are a mix of who's played the best, what kind of quality wins they have, and (perhaps most importantly) who is perceived as the best. It's always been that way, and that's why the poll system is the glorious clusterfuck that we know and love.

I still think OSU is better than USF though, and apparently so do the pollsters (at least going into this week, and I can't see how anything would have changed).

If you didn't think USF was better than OSU yesterday, how can you think different today?

USF put it on UCF, but I watched this team almost lose to FAU. The Buckeyes would handle them without a problem. Go ahead and continue to overrate them. I'd love to have the Buckeyes meet them in New Orleans.
