Best/Worst current CFB coaches (CFN, SI)

This article got me thinking it might be a good time to rank them again and see how perceptions change. The article is a pretty crappy list (talk about an ACC homer), so what you got?

Mine:
1. Pete Carroll - My #1 coach
2. Jim Tressel - Awesome NFL Draft rep, awesome BCS rep, are the recruiting criticisms fair?
3. Urban Meyer - Moving up fast, but can he stay and maintain greatness?
4. Bob Stoops - Oklahoma looked poised at one point to dominate, but only 1 NC and 1 Heisman to show for it. Stoops looked to be slipping, but surprised me last year as he turned a Bomar'd season into a BCS appearance
5. Mack Brown - Shut up his doubters in 2005. Shut up his supporters in 2006. Can he win without Vince? Still, can't deny the W-L record or recruiting strength.
6. Rich Rodriguez - Has really turned West Virginia into a strong program, but will have to continue the success to break into my Top 5; some concern about the players he brings in
7. Nick Saban - Will be the story in the SEC this year. Highly regarded, but his history shows alternating years of success and not-so-much.
8. Frank Beamer - Consistent but unspectacular.
9. Steve Spurrier - A cautionary tale for Nick Saban.
10. Jeff Tedford - Two years ago I figured he would either be in the NFL or the BCS Championship. What he did turning Cal around was amazing, but hasn't shown the ability to take it to the next level. No BCS appearances, no conference championships. Imploded at the end of last year.

He shared a co-championship this past year with USC.

If OSU had won the BCS last year, then JT would clearly be my #1 choice. Now, with the loss to UF and the overall poor performance, could your comments about Stoops also apply to JT?

Your list is generally very good, but I'd definitely have Greg Schiano (Rutgers) in there somewhere, probably in place of Beamer.

Coach on the cusp: Karl Dorrell (UCLA) - five pretty good years, but now he needs a breakout season.

Coach on the rise: Chris Petersen (Boise St.) - after five seasons as the Broncos' OC, Petersen led the team to a 13-0 record and BCS victory in his rookie season in 2006. He'll either be a 30-year legend at Boise State, or use his success as a spring board to a major program, a la Urban Meyer.

Come-back coach: Butch Davis (North Carolina) - Butch was one of the best at Miami, but he was overmatched in the NFL. Now that he's back where he belongs, look for NC to be an ACC powerhouse (like it was under Mack Brown in the 90's).

College football at the highest level is so darn competitive, it's hard for this week's flavor as super coach, (Meyer) to sustain that impressive performance.
Just look at the "super coaches" who had off years;
Pete Carrol
Mack Brown

If you're an NFL owner looking for the skinny on a college coach, you've come to the right place. Tressel flat-out cannot coach. It would be a real mistake to look at him. Now, that Charlie Weis fellow, there's a big-time coach...:wink2:
