If NDs real concern is being left out of a 16 team Big Ten there is certainly no urgency to move other than the option to act while their bargaining position is at its strongest.

And for those that don't bother with the link ... the juicy bit about Notre Dame.

Once again, Notre Dame appears reluctant to do what's best for their academic's because of the football team.

My take on Chip Brown is that he's a mouthpiece, and everything he's saying (or throwing against the wall, as it were) should be viewed through the lens of how that information benefits Texas.

Chris Mortensen is reporting that Nebraska AD Tom Osborne has informed his staff that the school is moving to the Big Ten, per the ESPN ticker.

He's on Doug Gottlieb now... just said that the B12 is dead. 6 schools to the [strike]B10[/strike] Pac10, Neb to B10, Mizzou getting the "cold shoulder" from the B10... Mizzou is in limbo, no word on invitation, Texas and aTm meeting tomorrow to make sure they are on the same page, aTm talked to SEC to appease Gene Stallings, CO has the invitation, Tech, OK, OSU all have invitations, Pac10 getting its schools.......

Also: Pac10 can recruit TX, Gottlieb tosses in from a source ND might be interested in the ACC...

2 possibilities...

I'm sure that "conversation" is out there... but... it's a bluff, if swarbrick is even playing that card.... he's in, he just needs to make it look good, and for the some ND faithful, there's no worse fate that being an "equal" partner in the Big Ten.

Other one is... that swarbrick really is interested in keeping the Big East together... so... this is really jsut a Big East/ACC unification offshoot.

Well, if the Big 10 wants to go to 16 we need 4 more from the Big East/ACC if Mizzou is getting the cold shoulder. I can't imagine ND would want to be a part of that if the Big 10 takes key players away from some combination of the Boston, NYC, DC, Atlanta markets.

If Nebraska joins before ND, then we'll be pushing hard for Texas and A&M, and they'd both get invites, and let them decide whether to go Pac-16 or Big 10.

The ONLY way that the Big 10 stops at 12 is if Notre Dame joins the conference. Otherwise, we're looking at 16. If the Big 10 can pull off Texas and A&M, then we'd probably get Notre Dame and either Mizzou or Maryland/Rutgers. If the Big 10 whiffs on Texas, say bye-bye to the Big East.

I imagine that's Delany's Plan... of course... ND's problem is that the Big East is the only conference that can actually make decisions based on Basketball... gets complicated there. I still believe Delany would be very happy to get SUNJ to shore up some BTN revenue out of NY/NJ/Philly, even if it's a small percentage... it's a lot of people... and continues to weaken ND's "national fanbase" argument. 50% of a dollar still being more than all of a quarter.

I honestly think... there was hope on ND's part that the Big XII would fall apart and Texas (or some combination of the 4) would elect to go independant should Nebraska jump.

I think the Texas legislature has killed this scenario...

I think that was ND's position. And that ship has sailed.

Otherwise, we're looking at 16.

Maybe 14 depending what shakes out, but, yeah... 12 isn't likely. At all.

Bye bye Big East.

I'm starting to think that the plan was Neb, Mizzou, and ND to goto 14, but when the Pac-10 rushed headlong into the fray claiming they'd take six teams out of the Big XII, that shot Delany's timeline to hell so Mizzou got dropped. If we're skipping 14 and going straight to 16, there are bigger fish out there than Missouri.

We've heard many predictions of imminent announcements, but when does it actually take effect? Next season?

What happens to the football games that have been scheduled in the future? New conference members would mean a new schedule would have to be done, and I wonder if that would conflict in any way with the already scheduled games. I guess a lot would depend on what the conference format is.
