Big Ten set to send conferences scrambling for new bowl marriages - Stewart Mandel - SI.com

Deal between Big Ten, Gator Bowl could reshuffle bowl marriages

Story Highlights
Big Ten, Gator Bowl discussing deal to lock-in conference's No. 4 or 5 seed
Teams from Big Ten and ACC could get $3 million each to play in Gator Bowl
As a result of deal, Alamo Bowl preparing to tie-in teams from Pac-10 and Big 12
This would mean more money and another New Year's Day bowl for the conference starting with the 2010 season (the Alamo Bowl will be on Jan 2. this season, but is not committed to that date for future years yet.)

The best part of the story was the photo & caption:

tate-forcier.jpg

Highly-touted freshman QB Tate Forcier and Michigan will likley be able to add the Gator Bowl among their New Year's Day options beginning with the 2010 season.

The Alamo bowl is Big Ten 4/5 vs Big XII 4, which often means a Big Ten team is playing against a tougher team. I'd love to see this game go away and get the PAC 10 #2 against the Big XII #4, just to see them get plowed for a couple years.

I want to see a group of deep pocketed B10 boosters just go buy a Bowl Game and move the fucker to an outdoor B10 regional site. Name it after a road salt company or better yet get an antifreeze company to sponsor it.

Tourism be damned, I just want to see warm weather teams come play a January game in Cleveland and then remind them it is a neutral site.

Behind the Cotton Bowl, #2 on my wish list for new bowls is a game in Yankee stadium...

New York Post

The sources said that Mark Holtzman, marketing director of Yankee Stadium, discussed the possibilities of a bowl game at a meeting with the Big East athletic directors.

...

If the bowl game comes to fruition, it likely would match a Big East school against an at-large team, preferably from the Big Ten, which has millions of alumni in the metropolitan area.

Ideally (and from what I've read this seems realistic) our ties could look like this:
1) Rose
2) Cotton
3) Outback
4/5) Gator
4/5) Texas

w/ a couple of crappy bowls that I won't watch to make 7.

That article caused a bit of a stir in the Northeast. The writer said:
And Boston College is learning that life in the ACC, where it has no natural rivals, isn't all it's cracked up to be.

BC Alum called him out on this comment, as Boston College has made much more money with the ACC, but the writer said nothing other than making a few wisecracks and gave no evidence for his statement. The Post is pure tabloid and I doubt he had much to substantiate a lot of what he wrote.

I did read in another article (I forget where) that if the Big East did get a bowl game in NYC they would want it to be for their #2 team (is that instead of the Sun Bowl?). I am not sure what level of at large team they would hope for from the Big Ten if this were true. . .

I would love to see that though, selfishly.

Not only does the ACC generate more money, they don't have to share football revenue w/ Providence, Seton Hall, Marquette and the others that don't have D-1A football programs.

Gator Bowl to be Big-10 versus SEC match up

Gator Bowl to match SEC vs. Big Ten | Jacksonville.com

The Konica Minolta Gator Bowl is close to finalizing a deal that will bring a
Southeastern Conference team vs. a Big Ten team to the New Year's Day
bowl game at the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, from 2010-2013.

The Gator Bowl matched the ACC vs. the Big East or Notre Dame (with the
Big 12 playing twice in the past three years) for 14 years. The ACC vs. Big
East or Notre Dame matchup will be in place for this year's game.

Looks like SEC 6th place team against the Big-10 4th Place team.

Good to see more head to head from our two conferences.
