Bird Droppings (Orioles 2010 Tidbits)

You bastards....winning 3 in a row isn't allowed....

And it's not like the Nats aren't getting leads and blowing them in back to back nights or anything....

The Nats were up 6-0 yesterday and 5-0 tonight and somehow the Orioles came back to win both.

I meant to check in here after I went to Camden Yards a few weeks back. The park is beautiful - it honors traditions and styles of the past without feeling tacky or tacked on. It's my favorite out of the ones I've been to so far. I even got to see the O's win - almost an even rarer feat than no-hitters this year.

I wasn't aware of the tradition of singing "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" during the stretch. That was pretty cool.

Yeah. Too bad that Rex Barney died a couple years ago - he was a fun announcer at the park.

Did you hit up Boog's?

Regretfully, no. We were in Baltimore for just the one day. We were holding out for crab and went to L.P. Steamers instead - which was excellent BTW.

Orioles hire Buck Showalter as manager - MLB - Yahoo! Sports
Orioles hire Buck Showalter as manager

BALTIMORE (AP)—Buck Showalter was hired to manage the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, his latest rebuilding project in a major league career full of them.
Showalter’s first game will be Tuesday night at Camden Yards against the Los Angeles Angels.

Baltimore had the worst record in the majors at 31-70 going into Thursday night against Kansas City and is headed toward its 13th straight losing season. The Orioles fired manager Dave Trembley on June 4 and replaced him on an interim basis with Juan Samuel.

Contd...

Report: Baltimore Orioles trade Miguel Tejada to San Diego Padres - ESPN
Report: Padres get Tejada from O's

SAN DIEGO -- A person familiar with the deal says the NL West-leading San Diego Padres have traded for Baltimore infielder Miguel Tejada.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither club had made an announcement Thursday. The person said Major League Baseball must approve the deal before it becomes official.

It wasn't immediately clear what the Orioles get in return for Tejada, who's hitting .269 with seven homers and 39 RBIs. The former AL MVP can play shortstop and third base.

The Buck Stops Here. Os are 4-0 since hiring Showalter. Kurkjian was on Baseball Tonight talking about Showalters intensity, -- said he even told a Japanese interpreter at his first team meeting to shut up because he was talking too loud, -- and the team is already buying in. Buck become first manager in over 100 years to take over a team 30 games under and reel off 4 straight.
