Black vs. African American

White people from South Africa that come to the US are also "African American's"

You ask a German what they are, they say German. An Englishman says he's English. A Swede is a Swede... you ask an American? You get "I'm part this and part that." Thinks about THAT one for a little bit.

I think that if you were to actually go out and take a poll in one of our major cities you probably would find that there are very few black people celebrating Kwanza and demanding to be called a Ugandan-American or whatever. In my opinion black people should be refered to by many names. It just depends on how close they are when you're talking about them. We've all said niggah and most of us have been called a white mother fucker behind our backs.

All the the black people I know don't care if you call them black, I'm white and my wife is black. The first time I took my future wife to meet my parents, they asked me if they should call her African American or black. I asked them, when you talk about your son do you describe him as Irish American.
