Bruce Feldman book: 'Meat Market'

Recruiting related, but ... not. Wasn't sure if this forum is where to go, so move if necessary.

Bruce Feldman's (one of ESPN's best writers, IMHO) new book "Meat Market: Inside the Smash-Mouth World of College Football Recruiting" hit bookstores this week. It follows the recruiting trail through a year spent with Ed Orgeron at Ole Miss.

There is an except up on ESPN.com now, which spins an interesting tale of near-admission from Orgeron and his staff that beggars can't be choosers when you're at a place like Ole Miss. The bottom third of the chapter excerpt covers Louisiana stand-out Joe McKnight, and how Orgeron wanted to help engineer a McKnight visit to USC, hoping either (1) the indecision would open the door for Ole Miss, or (2) McKnight would actually go to USC, which meant at least he wasn't going to LSU.

McKnight is carrying the ball at USC this year.

Good stuff, check it out. It really makes you wonder about all the back room deals and such that occur in recruiting, and how this stuff effects the futures and lives of 18 year old and younger kids. Sadly, I think Feldman's choice for a book title is both disappointing, yet completely accurate.

Top Ten Offensive Draft Prospects
7 Michael Oher* | OT, Mississippi
The little known tackle is a great combination of size and athleticism. In the midst of a good campaign, Oher offers terrific upside at the all important left tackle spot.
