Boston Red Sox (9x World Series Champions)

26 hours to go, Sox not close to a deal - Extra Bases
Remember, these situations are fluid, but while the White Sox remain hopeful of persuading the Sox to make a deal for outfielder Jermaine Dye, the price remains too high for Boston.

Chicago would take Wily Mo Pena but want either Manny Delcarmen or Justin Masterson. The Red Sox will not part with either for a rent-a-player like Dye, who is eligible for free agency after the season.

There is a decent chance that the Red Sox will not make a substantive deal before tomorrow's 4 p.m. deadline, but stay tuned.

And you think I'm not paying attention??? I want to puke. :p

Long time Yankees fan here, and maybe this will ease your mind a bit.

The Yankees have feasted on the sisters of the poor (except for the sweep of Cleveland) They are doing it with offense scoring something like 7 runs a game.

They won't keep this up, and their pitching, while steady, isn't what I would like it to be.

That was so pivotal for him... that third strike out with men on base was a real make or break for him.

Absolutely.

It was nice to finally make a 9th inning comeback (only the 2nd this year) too.

While the Yankees have been feasting on poor teams, and missed the top of the rotations against a few, they will be playing Detroit at the perfect time, as they appear in a bit of a rut, and then they have a pretty easy September along with the Red Sox.

This should be pretty close, but generally hot hitting isn't sustainable the way good pitching is. . .

My once rabid interest in baseball has been reduced by greedy strikers and dopers to 10 seconds each day checking the standings to see if the Indians are holding on and if the Red Sox are keeping the Yankees at bay. (I checked on the Reds also - but only till about the end of April or so.)

Needless to say the past month or so has been unpleasant. Leave it to the Onion to capture my sentiments perfectly:

What a downer yesterday was. Pedoria can't lay a freakin bunt with a man on second and strikes out , Youklis strikes out after being up 3-0, Papi gets on with the winning run... then Manny strikes out. Atleast the Yankees lost. I'm excited, tomorrow I will be attending my first game at Fenway. Looks like me and Clay Buchholz will each get our first taste.
